Goo-B-Gone stuff works excellent on those water spots. When I first bought my car all my windows and pillar posts had it. I goo-b-goned my whole car pretty much and it's flawless

turtle wax rubbing compound is really agressive, its like 40 grit in a can sometimes. you might have a hard time getting the gloss back if you use it. id try something a little less abrasive.

Cool Re: Pillar Post dis-coloration

Try this site Flynn's Detail Products - Automotive Waxes, Polishes and Detergents.

I use his Ebony Polish and Chery wet wax my PT has 208,000 miles on it now and pillars look painted (my pt is black btw). Now if your pilars are really bad get his Top Line - its non abrasive and works superbly with a variable speed buffer set to 1100 - 1300. they WILL come back then its just a matter of keeping them waxed. You can do it by hand but it IS a lot of rubbing - depending on how bad they are!

You can do it!

GooGone is really good stuff. I have been using it to remove the residue left by the 3m tape. I'll try it on the pillar post. Thanks guys for the input, this forum is great.

I havent tried the GooGone yet. I did use some Turtle rubbing compound and that worked OK. Also tried some Mothers Back to Black. Not much results there. Better than they were but still not really sharp.

I tried GooGone and while I was putting it on they looked great but as soon as I rubbed it back off they looked the same. Mine are dull in several places from the sun I guess. I have also tried Maguires Gold Wax and the spots that aren't dull look excellent but the sun damaged spots look the same and still remain dull. I believe the only thing to do is either replace them or paint them.

If anyone knows of anything else they think may work, please let us know!
