Question Bike Rack Max Load

Hi, I need some advice about using a bicycle rack on my PT Cruiser. Its a 2005 Base Model. Its the kind of rack you strap onto the back of the car and the main support is on the rear window and on the top of the hatch where the little opening is for the hatch to open. So I want to know if its okay to haul two adults bicycles and two slightly smaller bicycles for preteens. I really don't want to bend anything out of shape. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks.

Sophie

Sophie,

Welcome to the forum. Never seen a bike rack for 4 bikes. I'm sure the PT can handle the load but it's hard to understand how your rack attaches and where the actual load of the 4 bikes will be on the car. You say "main support is on the rear window" You mean by suction cups or leaning on the glass? It is tied down at the rook rack points and thru the hatch opening?

Maybe someone with more knowledge of bike racks will come along and give you a better answer.

The style bike rack that I use has several adjustable straps that connect using 6 vinyl coated hooks that go over the edges of the hatch(2 on top,2 on bottom and 1 on each side) plus the padded crossbars that lean against the lower portion of the hatch below the window and I have never had a problem hauling 3 bikes on it. just try to adjust the straps so that the bars arent laying directly on the window as the vibration could possibly cause it to crack.
