Question Difficulty installing rear spoiler?

I am planning on purchasing a PT Cruiser in the very near future and am curious, if it does not have a factory spoiler attached, how difficult is it to install one after the fact? I know with the Dodge Shadows produced in the late 80s through mid 90s it is not recommended to instlal a spoiler after teh fact because the hatches rust out. Is there a similar problem with PT's or not so much? I'd absolutely need one for a PT because it dresses them up so much better IMHO!

Thanks!

The rear spoiler is not that hard to install but as allways much easier with a budies help. You need to drill four holes but they come with template to follow so not bad. Put silicon on the screw holes and you shouldnt have any rust problems.unless its under a snow bank for half the year ? good luck, Ray.

Cool Re: Difficulty installing rear spoiler?

If you end up with a 2006 or later year, you will also need to repair/or cover up the center allignment hole of the mini wing spoiler. I simply used a chrysler medallion, and it looks great.

I believe I still have a copy of the template used to install a spoiler. If you need it, email me a fax number and I'll send it to you.

Great! Thanks for the input guys.

A question that remains is do you have to remove any interior plastic trim pieces when drilling, or are the holes drilled in a part of the hatch that there is no plastic trimming?

Just metal, no plastic.

Cool Re: Difficulty installing rear spoiler?

All you need to do is use 3M mounting tape, cut to seal the edges of where the spoiler contacts the hatch.
And, simply go to your favorite hardware store to get some nice flat head bolts that fit the mounting holes in the spoiler; and that are the right length to go through the hatch and solidly into the spoiler.
It's not rocket science!

What does rocket science have to do with this? I did not know if there were special clips etc.. I kinda thought forums were where we were able to ask these types of questions.. But thanks for your response anyhow.
