Default New PT Cruiser Owner needs advice on Hitches

Hello Gentlemen and Lady PT Cruiser enthusiasts, being new to the forum and being that this is our first PT Cruiser that I don't know squat about, I need advice about the best Trailer Hitch to purchase for it. It being a 06 GT Conv w/auto-stick.

I have four hitches that are listed for the Pt.... Drawtite,(which I'm familiar with as I had one on my full-size Pk-up.) Hidden Hitch, Curt, and Valley.

Your input and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Jim.

Welcome to the Forum TakenItEasy,
I have a Hidden hitch on my 05 Convertible but have used on other cars both Drawtite and Curt in the past. I can't tell any difference an any one of the three they are all good hitches. I don't know anything about the Valley hitch, never used it before. Be sure to keep your trans-fluid changed a lot sooner the Chrysler recommends if your pull anything. If Chrysler says change it every 50000 I would recommend every 25000. An ounce of prevention is always better then pound of cure.

May its new owner enjoy it as much as we did. We do still have a 2007 Limiter PT in Cool Vanilla with no mods and two HHRs now.

Thanks Decsr, It looks like I might have to flip a coin and pick one. I have heard some comments about the Curt Hitch. Some said that the shipping leaves a lot to be desired. One Gentleman said that his Curt Hitch arrived half out of the box.

Having ordered quite a number of items on-line, I know first hand how things get treated by the people delivering them.

I have found that if you check around you can usually get one put on with wiring included for not much more then you can buy one and put it on yourself. On my Pt the hitch cost me $180.00 plus tax installed and that included the wiring hooked up. Before you get one on line I would do a lot calling to everyplace within 100 miles of where you live, I had to drive about 80 miles round trip but it was worth it.

Thanks Decsr, We have a number of shops around here that install hitches, so I guess I'll get on the phone tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I am mechanically inclined, but I'd rather have it installed professionally, if the price is right.

Thanks to the tax man, and my unbelievable poverty, I'm not in the market for a hitch receiver. I'm considering either the Curt or the Hidden Hitch. Anybody know preferences? I have a shop that can do installation (I live downtown these days, which means no garage for me).

Functionality appears similar to both, and I'm only ever going to put a bike rack or cargo shelf on it a few times a year. Do both the Curt and HH "disappear" well when not in use?

Thanks!

I just saw this on E Bay, you might want to look it up, starting price is $69.00 with a $49.00 shipping. (CHRYSLER PT CRUISER 2001-2008 HITCH RECEIVER REESE)

I got the Curt Hitch. Installation was, in the end, pretty easy - did it in a friend's driveway. Should have gone faster, but I had to wrestle a bit with the rubber hangers on the muffler (the front one would not come loose for the longest time), and one bolt that was partially blocked by a conduit pipe.

Got it on, tightened it up, and it looks great! If I attach an actual trailer to it (my current plans only include a bike rack) I'll double check everything with a torque wrench, but for now, it's nice and quiet. Now to find the right bike rack...
