Default Headlight/Foglight Upgrade/Installation

I read in a thread dating back to 2003 that one should be careful about upgrading their headlight and foglight bulbs as they may burn out the wiring harness if too much wattage. Since my car just turned 16,500 miles tonight, I want to avoid that at all costs which is why I'm posting my question here.

I purchased these from eBay last week:

eBay Motors: XENON HID HEADLIGHT 2004 2005 2006 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER (item 380100664283 end time May-29-09 15:53:02 PDT)

eBay Motors: HID Xenon Fog Light Chrysler PT Cruiser 2005 2004 2003 (item 270383281477 end time May-30-09 17:47:47 PDT)

Are those within the correct wattage range that the stock wiring can handle? If not I'll send them back to the seller.

Secondly, how do you get to the low beam bulbs? I notice a little square piece of the wheel well plastic that looks like it pops out but I couldn't get it on my first couple of tries so I quit before I broke something. Advice?

from what i read u got 2 sets of the same bulb...
you need the 9006's for the low beam bulb
and 9145's or if you want it bright 9005's
high beams take 9005's also

I got the 9006XS for the low beams and then whatever number for the foglights. I'm not real worried about upgrading the high beams. I was trying to go for the 300C front end look with the bluer headlights and the clearer white fogs.

My question is will this upgrading to the 80w low beam bulbs affect the lexan headlight lenses at all? I dont' want them to warp, melt, get hazy, etc. and if this is the ultimate case then I'll pull the things back out. No one has been able to tell me one way or the other though>?

to be honest all plastic headlights ESPECIALLY on pt cruiser's will get hazy mine's an 07 and when i got it back in june of 08 both the headlights were hazy..and it had og bulbs in it(but it didnt have foglights then)
but you should be good and not melt the plastic or anything..the main problem with bulbs is over powering the already weak wiring of the pt..but 80w shouldnt hurt anything

I just went ahead, took the 80w bulbs out to be safe and purchased the Sylvania Super White bulbs from Advance Auto for $40. I no longer have the blue shade of light that I wanted and really liked, but at least the wiring on my car is safe.
