Default What's best hood bra and a fair price?

Hi All
I'm new here, but I thought since you're all so knowledgable about everything PT that you might give some advice on the best front end bra to buy and what a fair price would be to pay? I'm buying one as a valentine's day present from my husband (romantic, eh?)

I've searched around on the web and I know I want one w/ a screen to cover the grille, and probably the "T" version for better protection. Is there anything else I should consider? Any brands to stay away from? I live in South Florida and it would stay on all the time, so I don't want to worry about it ruining the paint underneath.

Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks,
Claudia

Cemile,
I have the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) bra from Chrysler. I only use it now on long trips up north. It fits great, goes on easy after the first time. I say that because you have to replace eight screws with snaps that come with the bra. Once they're installed it takes only 2 minutes to put on and take off the entire bra. BAD news is that I had to repaint the hood after only 3 months of ownership because water stayed under the part of the bra that covers just the hood and stained the paint. There were three big spots of discoloration. I make sure I take that part of the bra off and wipe it down if I get cought in the rain. I don't know if that will happen with all the car bras but be careful of leaving it on all the time.

I'd first ask your husband if he'd mind driving around sporting a 'manzere'.

After being in the body business for 20 years now...I'd rather deal with a rock chip every now and then than to have any bra...I used them when they first got popular in the mid 80's and they will KILL and paint finish in nothing flat, don't buy one, trust me...James

I purchased the OEM Mopar Bra for my PT from Tenafly Chrysler for $115. Can ask for the bra with or without the license plate cutout. Here's the link...http://store.yahoo.com/tenafly/noname2.html
The Mopar Bra just snaps and straps on, so removing and installing the bra is very easy.
I usually spray the nap with quik detailer to keep the static electricity and dust attraction down and as noted by others, remove as soon as possible after rain.

Have you all heard of a company called Clear Guard
(www.clear-guard.com). They have designed protection kits to protect vehicle paint from stone chips, bug acids etc. The kits are guaranteed for 4 years not to yellow, shrink or peel. The kits can be removed with out damaging the paint and the kits are clear/transparent.

My father-in law has had a clear guard kit on his PT cruiser for 5 months now and just loves it! No need for "black masks" which required cleaning and drying or bug deflectors.

luvcars is right. Bra's damage the paint if left on. The clear bra is a spray on cover..... Works great and you really don't see it. The only way to go... Good Luck
