Sunroof W/Roofrack???

I've recently purchased a new '03 GT and it has the factory sunroof, But I was very interested in a cargo/roofrack, But the dealer said they DON'T suggest putting/installing a roofrack if the vehicle has a sunroof. I even noticed a '02 on there lot (used) and it had the sunroof with a cargo/roofrack, I pointed this car ('02 PT Crusier) out to the dealer and said,"that one has it, and I'd like one installed too." They discouraged me to 'ADD' this on to my NEW '03 GT due to the sunroof and the possible weight of anything placed up there...!!! Does anyone have a sunroof WITH a cargo/roofrack on their PT Cruiser?????Any Help? Comments???? Thanx Stew

My wifes new 2003 LE leftover has a sunroof and roof rack. As far as the look goes when the rack is not in use both of the cross supports slide together at the back of the rack giving it a kind of spoiler look.

I have just the sunroof on my '02 limited but I have seen other '02's with both... they don't look bad... and you can slid both racks to the back and it does look like a spolier... good luck

Your dealer is FOS. All the cruisers since inception, with the exception of Dream Cruisers and GT's, and now I hear all 04s, have been available for order with both the sunroof and roof rack. The roofs are all the same. Given that without the sunroof frame assembly the roof is just sheet metal, I would assert that the roof is actually stronger with the sunroof. Of course you need to be careful about putting anything directly over it. If you decide to have one added, keep in mind that the rack is not sold as a unit at the order price of $150; you'd have to order all the components at close to $500. I got mine off someone who took it off theirs, or you could try a junkyard.

The factory roof rack hasn't been available from the factory or as a dealer installed option since the end of the 2002 model run. You can still buy the parts from a dealer but be prepared to pay thru the nose

My "understanding" is that the first roof rack was NOT a
factory option and it was not dealer installed, but they
had to find someone else to install it so there was no
margin for the dealer - so it is no wonder that the dealer
will not encourage you to get it. Then the factory installed
roof rack came out (which I have and I love the spoiler look),
and of course the dealer has nothing to say about that.

I believe there is a third roof rack, possibly aftermarket,
that does NOT look like a spoiler BUT it has extensions to
the side making it useful for carrying a canoe. I would like
to have that option: replace my spoiler look with the extension
to the side bars.

I picked up a MOPAR 2004 catalog and there are 2 roof racks available. Both are removable so check with your dealer

I obtained a beater roof rack missing the plastic end caps and the special screws. The dealer wanted over $100 for them and I would have to drop the headliner to install it. I bought the removable instead.
