Default Smoked tail lights and reverse lights!

So, according to UPS, my smoked tail lights and reverse lights will be here at my apartment today. Aside from evening out the tint between my rear and front windows, this is the last exterior mod I've been planning.

The set was pretty expensive (for my tastes), so that's why it took so long for me to take the plunge, but the guy who does them basically takes an entire week to coat the lights. He treats the OEM lights, and then sprays them with some sort of lacquer (mix of clearcoat and black paint), and then bakes them at low temps for a week so the finish fully cures. He then wetsands them, and buffs them out.

Anyway, here's a before pic and I'll post an after pic in a couple hours (hopefully)..

Oh yeah, I remember you planning that months ago! Were these the ones you mentioned in that thread?

Yep, same ones. Unfortunately the guy sent me the newer (06+) tail lights, so the tail light socket doesn't quite fit. Trying to figure out what the hell I'm gonna do now.

The joys of online shopping! I just waited 3 weeks for an Airaid filter set only to get the wrong year. I sold it to another member in the club though

Yeah, it sucks, but I'm not sending them back. I'll just have to find a way to fix it. I'm pretty sure I can just swap in the sockets from the 06+ PT's, but I just need to find a part number for them. For now, I was able to get like 2 out of 3 of the things threaded, so they're sorta wedged in there temporarily. I love the look, though:

Get out the Yellow Pages and call the local wrecker yards. You'll get the sockets for next to nothing. When I got the rollpan on my car I needed the backup lights from the 05 and older. $105 each at the dealer, $25 each at the wrecker!!

Yeah, I'll probably do that tomorrow before I run into work-- most of the U-Pull It yards around here are closed by now. Were you able to simply disconnect the old sockets and connect the new ones-- no other modifications were necessary? Because if so, that would be sweeeeeeeeet!

The body shop guys did it and as far as I know it was just a case of cutting the old socket and putting in the new one. I still have the 07 sockets and the wires are just cut.

I see. Well, because the issue is simply that there are two sides to each bulb socket. There's the car-side of the harness which clips into the harness for the bulb socket. I'm fairly certain that if I removed the harness attached to the bulb socket, the 06+ harness should clip right in place. The wiring didn't change, it's just that the tabs on the sockets where you 'screw' the socket into the tail light housing don't completely match up.

I must be thinking of something else, I just went and looked at the original back up lights and there is no wires on them. So the plug on the car must be the same just the way the sockets attach to the light is different.

Too bad you weren't doing this later on, I've been thinking about getting different tail lights and I will be needing the older sockets. We could have switched.
