Default Rear spoiler removal-small spoiler

OK,a couple of people have asked about removing the small rear spoiler in the past so here it is.Since I am going to be putting an aftermarket spoiler on mine soon I decided to go ahead and take mine off and make sure the hatch was ok underneath before paying to have the new spoiler painted.
The first thing I did was remove the 2 8mm nuts that hold it on,1 on each end.

Then I took my heat gun and a plastic putty knife and went to work on the adhesive.I just heated it real good and pried a little at a time.

This is what it looks like when the spoiler comes off.A big mess.

Next I just cleaned as much of the adhesive off with my fingers as I could and then hit what was left with Goo Gone. After the adhesive was all removed I polished it with rubbing compound and it turned out like new.

Here is the centering hole that has been mentioned in the other posts about these spoilers.

When I was done I put the spoiler back on without tape just to cover the holes until I am ready to install the new spoiler. It took a little over an hour from start to finish. Now I know when I get ready to put the new one on there are no surprises hiding under there.

No,I dont have the custom spoiler yet.I just wanted to get the hatch cleaned up and make sure there was no damage under the factory spoiler. Now it will only take a few minutes to take the factory spoiler off when I get ready to put the new spoiler on.

There were some minor scratches from where they took it off but they polished out.

I ordered the custom one so I wont have to worry about covering the centering hole.

$40.I was real surprised that he accepted. If you were thinking about getting one you might want to go ahead and snatch it up.He only has one left and I dont know anybody else that sells that spoiler.Just dont tell the guy I told you how much I paid LOL.
