Default keyed fuel cap

since someone tried to steal my DMV sticker from the license plate recently at work, i was wondering what will be next... and with the gas prices i keep remembering that the PT does not have a keyed fuel cap.

is there any drop in replacement?

I went through two of the locking caps from the dealer - kept getting "check engine" light - finally gave up on it. I wish somebody made a locking door, but haven't found one yet.

indeed, looks more practical.

do you have to leave the key in when it's unlocked like some caps?

did you keyed it to the ignition keys?

I bought it on EBay for 120.00 but Autoanything carries it as well for 133.00,I open it and pull the key out and i havent had it rekeyed to the ignition key. It's made by AMI and the quality is top notch

I got 2 of the Gates 31836 for wifes 06' and my 04' from amazon a while back for less than $5 each. Just checked and showing currently out of stock but others have them for about $10 (currently selling for about the same price on eBay including shipping too)

Have had them on both for a while now and no issues with either car.

OUCH! $100+ and it's not even keyed to the ignition key...

i will have to think about the internal one

I was thinking the wassle of using the key would be the worst price... damn Euro cars for spoiling me. why can't all fuel doors have a electric lock?

Idea that may seems more appealing to the people that want to leave the PT as original as possible (is there even another one besides me?!) and more importantly, protect their fuel tank and NOT have yet another key to lose.

...but above all to not be confused with one of those people that buy adhesives that look like bolted billet fuel doors... oh the shame.

anyway, here's the idea:

split the cables that goes to the rear door open/close sensor and add one of those to the fuel door.

that way, if you open the fuel door when the alarm is on, it will sound the same as if someone opened the rear door. or so i think. Do i think correctly?
