Default Bullet Mirrors

I am considering getting a pair of black Bullet Wing Mirrors for my PT:

Demon Tweeks Classic Bullet Style Side Mirror - Demon Tweeks

Does anybody know if anyone makes a mirror mount adaptor or a flat blank plate for fitting?

There are a couple of guys on here who have some old school mirrors mounted, not sure how they filled in the mounting space. Got to go look through my photos, I've see quite a few. Would love to see those bullet mirrors on a PT.

$345!!! What a rip-off!

Just found exactly the same mirrors for only $57 (see link below) so the bases must add the extra $285 that makes up the PTeazer price!

The Hot Rod Company - Swan Neck Mirrors

At those prices, I think I will make my own!

You can make your own. Its easy to make a template from your stock mirrors to get the basic shape. The only hard part is getting them to seal and getting the three threaded studs that hold the base in place "just right". You also don't want the stud heads to show on the outside, at least I wouldn't.

Here are some pics of my "mirror delete" project. Any of you that are familiar with the "RIDDLER" type shows, you already know that most of the streamline bodied custom cars have the mirrors shaved for the flow of the cars design. it would obviously be awkward when driving on the street with this mod. Those cars don't get driven on the street, they're simply show cars. I've done so many shows over the years and my style is more a "flowing design" than a real retro look, that around six or seven years ago I did the mirror delete mod. I always get comments about it at shows, most non PT owners don't like the donkey eared mirrors on the PT. Their words not mine. Actually, the mirrors and the huge front and rear bumpers are the two most ridiculed style points they comment about on our cruisers.

By the way, I don't drive on the street with the mirror deletes installed. It takes 5 minutes each side to put them on after getting to the show. Shortly after I first did this mod, I noticed that a few of the owners I had talked to at some of the shows had followed my lead and copied my mod. I'm flattered. I even noticed one of them included in the pics that Xwing777 put up of a recent show that some of the members here attended.

Those are nice custom made mirror delete panels. I am really surprised no one is producing the blank base mounting plates, which could then be used to mount any style retro chrome mirror, as the original poster on this thread wanted to do. Those sold with the "swan" style mirrors are nice but expensive (when you consider the cost of the mirror itself without the PT Cruiser mounting base plate). One would think generic mirror-delete blanks would be a relatively cheap product, possibly even made in hard plastic like the originals. Oh, for an affordable 3-D printer...

You could always cut & fill the old OEM sail-mount,and mount them on the fenders.....Don't they do that on alot of cars in the U.K. anyway?....I think with proper planning it would look pretty sweet!

Wow, I was surprised to see this old thread resurrected!

Just an update, been working on this for a little while now. Got some of these:

Chysler PT Cruiser M3 DTM EVO Wing Mirror Base Plates Pair | eBay

I cut a piece of aluminium to fit the recess and then bolted and glassed it in, then mounted the mirror to the aluminium plate. I then gave it a blow over in satin black and stuck it on the car. It lasted about 3 weeks and then the plastic mount started to crack under the weight of the mirror.

I have one of the design guys at work re-engineering the design with better bracing internally to support the weight of the mirror. Once he is done, I will send the design to be moulded in impact resistant composite plastic (handily I work for a manufacturing company). If it all works out, I might start selling them on ebay!

However, it is now on the back burner because the money has to go on maintenance costs as a very low car and bad roads means that my engine mounts are on their way out and since I'm taking it apart, I might as well do the belt too!
