Default Stubby antenna still get good radio reception?

Has anybody else changed their antenna's to a shorter one?
I found this and was wondering if the reception will still be ok or if it won't pick up radio stations as well?

I have a billet shorty. It does cut out reception on the far away stations. I'm in what you would call rural area between two small towns. All the local stations are fine and the reception is better at night (something to do with propagation) on the far off stations. Listen to the CD or cassette most of the time anyway.

We are rural and the station I listen to is about 40 miles away but we don't have many hills either. It comes in really strong right now but I wouldn't want to lose it. Do some of these short antennas have better reception than others or are they pretty much the same? Looks like you can get a 3" antennas to 9".

Mine's not quite stubby, it's 18 inches which is about 1/2 the length of the regular antenna. I would think the "stubby" 3 to 9 inch antenna wouldn't get good reception at all unless they are made like the roof antenna of the newer cars. They are wound inside the base to make them act like a larger antenna where the "stubby" ones your talking about are just a stick like the OEM antenna. There are thick stubby black antennas like some hand held radios that would act like a full length one.

Hard to say. It's 13 inches but if you believe their hype, it's a good or better than the OEM.

I bought a Stubby antenna(13inch black one) at Advance Auto and so far, I have not noticed any loss of reception and I live in the sticks..

Just unscrew the antenna and see if you get anything.
If its decent, it'll be even better with a stubby.
My antenna got bent and I took it off. Local stuff still comes in.
I wanna find a good looking short one.

I've got a 13" solid billet antenna on mine and it works great.
