Has anyone installed the license bracket that relocates below the bumper from Kustom Kruzr.Tryed dry fitting one today and it looks nearly impossible to get the holes drilled.Doesn't look like it will fit but i'm sure it will work.Any ideas

I drilled the holes at a slight angle & used stainless sheet metal screws..Wasn't easy, but it's solid.

I didn't have any problems on my 2001 PT Cruiser. Just be careful. One slip and you'll mess up the lower grille.

I used a small dremel tool on mine, my drill was too big to fit. However, does anybody have overheating problems? and will this affect the thermometer in side the car? thanks

happy safe cruisin

I have my plate below the bumper.

I'll let you in on a secret: You can fabricate a bracket out of 1/8" x 1" aluminum stock and install it without drilling a single hole!

Follow me on this since I don't have any pics:

1. Cut 2 ~12" lengths of stock.

2. Drill the plate holes and bolt on the license plate such that the top of the plate has the residual aluminum sticking upward (assembly looks like a "U")

3. Here's the cool part: the protruding aluminum pieces are a force-fit between the metal and foam bumpers! And it just so happens the bottom of the plate is slightly pre-loaded against the lower grille to prevent rattling.

4. In order to prevent the possibility of dropping the plate on the road, I made 2 "L" brackets, bolted one edge to the backside of plate bracket and stuck (with 3M double-sided tape) the other side to the bottom on the metal bumper.

It's a bit tricky to describe here, but if you can get through Step 3, you'll see the logic in Step 4.

This one modification REALLY makes the car look more aggressive. Why DC put the plate where they did is ???!!! BTW: My goal here wasn't to save the $30 cost of the Kustom Kruzr kit, but rather to get the 'ol noggin ticking

Stephen R., Great idea, I will put it on my to do list. If you have any mods you want to make or have any experiences that will help please let us know!! I am a laittle worried about loosing the plate but let me dry fit everything and I will get back to you if I have a problem. Thanks

1. I just re-checked the assembly. Stock is 1/8" x 3/4" (no big deal).

2. Test fit. (If the prongs are not a snug fit between the bumpers, wrap them up with tape. I didn't need to do this.)

Holes that connect the plate "prongs" to the "L" brackets should be drilled in the small 1/2" space you'll see between the top of the license plate itself and the bottom of the bumper cover.

3. Test fit the "U" assembly. Logic where the "L" brackets will go (including the double-faced tape) and pencil mark them through the holes in Step 2.

4. Remove test fit. Drill holes and bolt "U" & "Ls" together with nut, bolt and lock washer. Do not fully tighten them yet.

5. Test fit. Adjust bolt alignment as needed and snug bolts. An extra pair of hands helps here.

6. Here we go!! With a cleaned metal bumper surface, expose the double-faced tape on both "L" brackets and fit the plate. Press the tape firmly to the bumper.

I've had mine on for 1.5 years and the four seasons and it hasn't failed.

I'd be interested in hearing from those who give this a try.

I just today mounted the front plate frame using the tie-wrap method on my 2004 Platinum.

Take the front license plate bracket that comes with the car, turn is upside down. It fits the contour of the lower grill and the bottom sits about an inch above the bottom of the from air dam.

I thought I saw it here, but couldn't find it with search. Maybe it was DIY. If anyone wants directions, I'm 99% sure it was at www.ptdoityourself.net

Or you could move to North Carolina, no front license required!

This should not be any problem on the n/a PT but it is not advisable on the GT due to the location of the intercooler.
