Chrome Grille Warning

I have had an Autotechnica chromed grille overlay (ABS with chrome on top) on my Cruiser for about a year. In the last couple of weeks it has started to crack for no apparent reason. I haven't gotten into and fender benders, and I keep the grille clean. Just thought those of your who are considering buying a chromed grille would like to know.

Could it be from the sun or heat? Where are you located, and do you have car outside in sun most days?

I have the same grill on the wife's car . where is it cracking??

My car stays out in the sun almost all the time. I live in Atlanta, Georgia. The grille is cracking on the horizontal pieces, and most of these cracks are next to the vertical pieces. I really have no clue as to why it would crack. The car is in the sun, sure, but there are only a few months in the year when the temperature will get above 85 or so. Perhaps it is a combination of high humidity and heat. I have no idea.

I have heard of this happening before with chromed grille overlays (ABS with chrome on top)--somewhere between 1-2 years they begin to crack or peel/chip off.

When I first started looking into chrome grilles about a year ago there were quite a few posts in here and elsewhere about the "chrome" overlays cracking and yellowing. I think ptdoityourself had a review about it back then - which made me decide to go with an E&G real chrome grille. They're only about $399 if you catch them on sale and I am really happy I didn't mess around with the chrome plastic stuff. If you can, you might consider this a chance to improve your chrome grille mod! Good luck.
