Default Questions About Stock PT Cruiser Roof Racks

Hi folks. I recently was given a set of stock PT Cruiser roof racks. Lucky me!

Today I installed them for the first time, following the MOPAR instruction sheet that came with them.

After installing them snugly, the clamps that tighten down on body to keep the racks in place do not sit flush with the body. They stick out about 1/16" or so from the body, so when I reinstalled the rubber weather stripping on the car, it sticks out a bit in those areas. Is this normal??

Also, although I can close the doors easily and get a positive lock without much effort, when I open the doors, I notice that the doors "pop" open because of the pressure put on them from the clamps that are sticking out a bit.

Is there a way to rectify this? Have I not installed the clamps properly?

I do not plan on keeping the roof racks on permanently, but I also don't want to be causing and damage or problems to the car when they are on.

Thank you!

Yesterday when I installed the racks it was a quick and dirty install, just to get a ladder home.

I took some time today and re-adjusted, measured and marked the mounting locations, re-positioned everything and it all fits much better.

There is still some pressure on the doors and weathersripping, inevitable due to the mounting method, but much less than yesterday.

I may just leave the racks on for a while, rather than taking them on and off. I know, not so "cool" or "sporty" looking, but handy none-the-less.

Once I get all the gutter cleaning done in the neighborhood, then I may take them off.

If anyone does have any tips or suggestions, however, please feel free to add your .02 cents.

You're right. I just haven't had time. Tomorrow I should be able to.
