I know a few of you have removed the side SPEARS. Please tell me what methad you used, and how not to 'mar' the finish. I like the look alot, and is there body color under there? Thanks.....

Yes, there's body color under the spears. There's a couple ways of taking off the spears. Heat (hair dryer?) helps a lot but it can be done without it. They are glued on, so heat softens up the glue. You can pry them off using a blunt (wooded) instrument or a fishing line used to cut the glue as you "saw" around the back and pull the spear off. Whatever you use...take your time, be careful. There will be glue residue left when your done and numerous things you can use to get that off. I use "Goo Gone" from the local hardware store.

Some people use wooden sticks you get to mix paint.
and a hair drier. To remove the glue left over.I have good luck with 3m adhesive remover I got at Wal-Mart. Take your time.Don't rush it

On removing the side spears residue. If you go down to your local automotive paint supply store they sell what's called a pin stripe removal disk. There are several styles but they are basically a big eraser that you attach to a drill. Price is $8-20. I bought an $8 one and it works great. You can use it to remove stickers, dealer names and logos, and the residue from the adhesive. I have used the heat gun and the sticker removal liquid, the eraser is 10 times easier and you don't have to worry about marring the paint. The only problem I have had is using it to remove chrome or brushed aluminum stickers. They are so tough that I ended up removing paint. This may not be a good option on a brand brand new car since the paint may not be fully cured. On a 6 month or older car you are probably okay.

Never paid much attention to side spears until the other
day. They do kind of look like fins.So yesterday I ordered the flat ones.

Hmmmmm......I'm thinking of removing my side spears and making replacements out of wood. I've seen pics of flat wood pieces put on after the stock spears were removed. I was thinking of making mine almost half round so they have some depth, almost like the originals.
Once the originals are removed, can they be reused if the wood doesn't work out? In other words, can the original be removed without ruining them? BB

BB yes if you take your time. I took mine off tonight.
I uesed fishing line and a wood stick used for mixing paint. If you want to reuse you will have to replace the tape. Under the spears is body paint, although mine had runs under all of them.I forgot to mention I also used a hair drier.Than some 3M adhiesive remover to remove excess glue.
