Default Has anyone done faux fender seams?

I was wondering if anyone has done simulated fender seams where the fender bulges meet the body to make them look bolt-on like the 1940's cars. I was thinking of trying something subtle like a single black pinstripe for this effect.

All through the 50's and 60's we did everything we could on our "fat boy" lead sleds to make the transition from body to fender seamless. We would grind, weld, lead, and Bondo till we were senseless. All in the pursuit of "the look". My excuse is that I probably sniffed too much Bondo dust as a teenager. That "fat boy " look is one of the things I cherish about my PT!

Now, if you want you PT to look like a new York Taxi cab I say more power to you. Go ahead and make those faux fender seams.

Why not go one further and get out the saws all, cut the fenders off and tack em back on spaced about 1/8' from the body to get the "look" you want? You could probably even insert fender beading.

I'd suggest a checkered black and yellow belt line, black fenders and a taxi yellow body. Your could call it "Checker" the cab.

Just a bit of sarcasm all in good fun. I'd really like to see a photo of it when your done.

Seriously, there's some black body trim products with an adhesive backer that may come in 1/8" or 3/16" thicknesses. The narrower the better. This'd probably give you the look your shootin' for with more dimension than a pin stripe and without the sawin' and grindin'.

The bulk of Mopar cars from 40-52 had stainless beaded fender welting on the rear fenders only and none on the front.

Using chrome 1/8" trim as a faux chrome fender bead on a PT could be a great idea done right if you've got-a-do-it. Probably the better way to go to get that "early Chrysler look" I can't wait to see photos.

I think I saw that width at AutoZone when pricing chrome trim a few weeks ago for SOOO BIG. It's meant to be affixed as a chrome detailing accent. It should be very malleable because of the width.

A good idea from Pasadena, Texas!
