Question Chrome edging - remove or ??

I just bought a 2010 deep water blue PT Cruiser. Only 30K miles on it!

Just have a couple of questions about the chrome edges on this car, that go around the hood, doors, and hatch. Personally, I don't care for them as they don't "flow", they end in strange places, and just, well, I don't know. Not my thing.

They appear to be plastic. I have no idea what holds them on - friction, tape, glue?

Is anyone familiar with this type of trim? Would I be better off leaving them alone, or is it possible to remove them and get normal clean edges again?

Also, are the chrome spears likely to be stick-on aftermarket as well, or did 2010s come with chrome spears?

The edges are probably a "U" shaped with a sticky material on the inside of the "U" so when pressed onto the edge of the door both sides stick to hold it in place. The door spears are held on by 3M tape and it came with all the PT's but some had body color and some had crome depending on the trim level.

I think you should leave the door spears on, they really do dress up a PT.

The other trim you could likely take off pretty easily by applying a little heat with a heat gun to soften the adhesive, should pull right off and not cause any damage to the paint.

I think all the 2010 PT's came with factory chrome spears and chrome grill accents. That edging around the doors and rear hatch is aftermarket and doesn't look that sporty to me. I'd remove and leave the spears.

Like above the edging has been added. The spears are actually OEM. You can tell by comparing the front door one where it meets the rear door. Compared to the paint ones. It has a different shape. The chrome covers are made to fit that shape of the painted ones. I personally like the spears. The rest can go.

If the chrome edging is fit around the edge of the doors, it's a U-shape, as CREWZIN mentioned, held on by 3M style tape. If they are laid flat on the doors, also held on with 3M tape.
You can likely peel them off or, as mentioned, some heat and then peel.

The spears look good! Don't touch them!!!

The edging clashes with the spears. The edged hatch look like a 1950s airliner?

Be carefull about removing them it could lift paint.

Factory installed, dealer or owner installed how do people know without the build sheet.

lol

You may be correct, see the link below to download the 2010 Dealer Brochure and is says: Molding, Bodyside, Chrome is standard.

But look at the last picture on the brochure, the PT doesn't have the chrome spears but does have a bodyside ground effects kit.

Wow, thanks for all the replies! Sounds like we're all on the same page. I'm going to try to remove all the edging from the hood, doors and hatch, and leave the spears and grille alone. I think a little heat might be a good idea. I'll start slow. DO NOT WANT to lift any paint!
