Default Modesty Covers

I have seen a few pretty nice modesty covers on some of the PT engines I've seen and wished I had them on my two PTs. Were they optional or only on certain year models? I have an '02 Limited and an '05 Touring and neither came from the factory with these covers. Is this strictly for looks or was there an underlying reason? Would these covers hold in more heat under the hood of an already cramped hot environment? Basically, I guess I'm just wondering of there is any advantage to using these or not. Thanks for any help.

On the NA (non-turbo) PT's, the vanity covers came mainly on the 2001/2002 models. But can be added to any of them. They serve no purpose except for looks. And there's lots of customization potential too.

Here's the one on my 2001 Limited.

Thank you, Handy_Cruiser for the handy info. Yours looks great. I'm glad that the covers can be added to any year model, so I guess I can work on getting a couple for my two Cruisers.

To put a cover onto a PT that did not come with one, you want to get all the parts: cover, studs, throttle cable bracket, throttle cable clip.

I added one to my '06 NA engine. I think they look cool. Here is what I am looking to do with mine. I grabbed another cover just to mess around with. Once I decide, I will probably sell the extra one.

I haven't decided which set up I like better for sure, but I am leaning toward the block letters.

I find that it is kind of tough to find one in good shape, although if you are going to paint it, most any will work. I like the original, with added details.

You will need the three studs, the correct throttle bracket, and the standoff. All of which should be on the Cruiser that you get the cover from (assuming you are getting one from the junk yard like I did.)

Any questions just ask. Many people have added them. It's pretty easy and dresses up the engine compartment nicely.

I put mine on with just the 3 studs, Didn't know about the throttle bracket. It fits snug, and I can see that the throttle bracket could be removed for clearance, but that's about it. The cable could use the clip as it tends to want to naturally sit higher than the covers allows, so rubbing would be an issue. I went to a junkyard last weekend (post of findings/story soon) and found 3 covers on the 9 available junked PTs (which i believe was all the 01-02). Took one and the studs for myself. I like the cover and have plans for paint and designs.

I managed to get the clip from the dealership for $3.40. The cable bracket though is a problem. The parts guy told me all model year parts have been superseded by the newest edition. So the old design that you need for the Modesty Covers is no longer for sale. Have to pull it off the junker you find a cover on. Or just deal with the crooked cover.

You might try sending a PM to bubba_1952, he sold me the correct bracket a few years ago, he might have another one or can find one in a yard on one of his runs, he's a good guy to deal with.

Saw this style recently on Ebay:

PT Cruiser Engine Center Vanity Cover Polished Stainless Steel 2001-2005 | eBay

It doesn't say anything, but I assume it mounts to the same studs.

These look like a set of the original style studs and not the alternate ones:
