The OEM ones are still available:

2001 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Chrome Door Spears 82207408 | eBay

My PT didn't originally have the chrome ones, they were the body color ones, but I had them switched out. Just a word of advice, the OEM ones come with just a few strips of 3M body tape for mounting, add more tape.

I've been toying with this idea: what about putting Chrysler Town & Country chrome trim on in place of the door spears? I have no idea if it is the correct size, but I'd like to find out.

Just an idea. I kinda like the styling of it, and the CHRYSLER logo.

Holy moly those things are pricey! I've got a set on a parts car I just picked up... If you're interested, I'll look them over to check if there is any damage, if they look nice I'll take $75+ shipping.

You might have a hard time removing them in one piece, that 3M tape can be tough. A while back, I was getting a door repainted and the dealership body shop broke one of the spears while trying to remove it, they had to replace it at their expense.

That's s good point... but in pretty sure the previous owner bought and installed them, so I'm hoping they didn't do a great job!

Fishing line is the key. Bubba told me about this and I've now used this technique to remove five sets of spears. Just take a piece of fishing line, work it in behind the trim and "saw" back and forth. Once about 8 inches of the trim is free, stick a piece of wood or similar behind the trim to hold it out from the car an inch or so. This makes the "sawing" easier. The fishing line will quickly wear out and you will have to replace it a number of times. But you can get the spears off undamaged this way at about 10 minutes per side.

PS: If anybody ever comes across a nice set of chrome convertible spears, I want them.

Well, that sounds like fun! But it makes sense. I have some thin solid hobby wire, I may try that first. It might last longer than the fishing string... hopefully somebody wants these if I successfully remove them. This of course, is all depending on whether or not mine are in mint shape. If they're scuffed, there's no point.

Success! The wire cut a little into the bottom side of one piece, where it would never be seen. Considering the material, the wire may have been a little aggressive. Fishing string may be better, depending on what adhesive was used. Anyway, that was fairly easy.
