Default Can someone tell me what these are on my hood?

Hi there!

I'm new here and just have a question I hope you can help me with.
Sorry if this is the wrong place on the forum!!

Anyways, most cruisers I have seen have these black knob things (two of them) on the front hood. One of mine broke off and I don't know what it is or if its replaceable or even really matter...

I was brushing off the snow from my car and it was gone, so I'm assuming its in a parking lot somewhere

If you guys know/can help me I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!!

(ps I've attached a pic but I don't know if it will work)

They are windshield spritzers.

Welcome to the forum.

Those are lane spotters. They are to use to make sure you are driving correctly in your lane.

They start out as windshield washer nozzles. But eventually the underside of them get crispy due to heat and the hoses fall off. Then they become hood decoration.

Confessions of a squirter junkie! Only girl PTs have those little knob thingies on the hood. That's how you tell them apart from boy PTs.

That lever on the right side behind your steering wheel works the wipers. With a pull on it the "knobs" should squirt the windshield. In your case, one squirt, one dribble 'cause the other ones busted and lying in the parkin' lot.! If you're not aware of this, probably both of yours are clogged and have stopped workin'! If I were you, I'd pull the squirter lever and see if fluid comes from the broken one or from the tube attached to it when removed from the base. If you see a dribble, everything else is OK and you just need new squirters.

I've only got two junk yard "knob" thingies left, but if the other one on your hood still works and you just need the one, PM me and I'll get you one for the cost of shippin' it to you. You might have to clean it out with a straight pin. That's also how you pivot the squirt balls to get the hole aimed where you want on the windshield. Aimed too high and you'll hit the windshield of the car behind you!

Too many time folks from freezin' climates go cheep and just keep water in the squirter system. At the first autumn freeze it freezes up the squirter system and it's toast!

They squirters don't test by blowin' one 'em to see if they're cleared. They have to be hooked to the pressure of the washer fluid line to see if they're not clogged. Pokin' with a pin cleans 'em out. As Handy said they can be brittle with heat and age. The ones I salvaged were OK. No freezin' weather here in Florida.

Happy PTin', ptprice

The chemical reaction with the plastic and washer fluid. Eventually cause the squirter to disintegrate.

Mine were aerodynamically, electrically and attractively enhanced to look, perform and compliment the exterior accessories of the platform. They light up and squirt too!!!

I find it ironic that the colors red, white, and blue stand for freedom until they are flashing behind you.

Do they light up all the time when you have the headlights on, or are they on a switch with your other lighting just for shows? What color are they?

Depending on the color and your state, the lights could be illegal (you can't have certain colors shining to the front).
