anyone remove or replace these yet? Are they held on by the 3M tape? Thanks,

I just got my car back from the body shop ...a chrysler shop... and Greg the foreman told me that it is indeed held on by 3m tape that it is best to doit in hot conditions or use a heat gun or lamps very carefully to warm up the area. He said to start slow with a very flexable plastic putty knife just to get the edge up and started. Then use a popsicle stick to slowly run anlong the seam and pry it up...less likly able to use enough force to damage any sourounding areas.

Kevin,

Can I ask why you want to remove the door spears. If it's to replace the spears with chrome, you can now buy chrome overlays that go directly on top of the original door spears. No need to remove the OEM ones. www.revelenterprises.com sells the overlays:

the reason why is because i wanted to replace with oem chrome. so i asked my bodyman the howtoos. in the mean time i decided to try the autotechnia sprears(overlays) avail, from revel. we shall see how they work.

Because i'm different and want them GONE! Just kidding...But i do want them gone. I think the graphics i'm looking at may look better & be ezr to install without'em. On another note, if the graphics turn out to be not to my liking i would re-install the spears.

ps- i like the how the covers have the PT imprinted in them. Now if i could get them in anodized blue....

This is why I love this site.
I didn't know those spears came off. I'm planning on doing a Pipe line Woody, similar to California Cruisers Surf Goddess. Was planning on just doing an overlay on the door spear but now I'll be pulling them off and just replacing then with wood.

Thanks everyone
Paul W

Not that you can see it real well in my picture below, but there's another option in case anyone is interested. You can replace the spears on the doors with flat highly polished stainless steel inserts.
I don't have a close-up shot, but you can see the reflection of the grass on the ground in the flat spears.
