Default Non-functional "Lake Pipes" Questions

I am toying with the idea of installing Lake Pipes on my PT. I've looked at Stull and J&J.

How are they held on? No holes in the floor are there?

Do they interfere with jacking the car up for tire service?

Any pros or cons regarding either brand?

What about the generic type sold through JC Whitney? I like the way they have the four into one simulated collector behind the front fender.

As always, thanks for any help with these questions.

Kevin,

I have the Stull non-functional lake pipes...and my PT is lowered. Does it interfere with jacking up the car...damn straight. I have 3 special jacks that start at 3 1/2 inches and I have to slip one between the end of the lake pipe and the back wheel, get it up a few inches so I can slip another jack in the front. Without the PT being lowered, I might be able to get under the front.

The 4-into-1 non-functional pipes look real good but you definitely can't have the car lowered with those. The 4-into-1 part of the pipe is low enough as it is.

Mine just needed two holes on both sides in the double welded frame part that is under the edge of the cruiser. They've been on for a couple years now with no problems except tightening them up once in awhile.

kevin....

I have the ones from jc whitney...no real
problems....I slanted mine alittle down towards the front to keep water from
sitting in them etc....only problem I had
was this past winter...no matter how much
wax etc....the driver side started to
have little rust marks....passenger side
no problem of course....I'll take them
off this next winter...you won't have that
problem being in fla.....

now I found my brackets at a small auto
store in southern illinois for half the price
the big stores wanted and noticed he had the
same lake pipes for 50-60.00 less...same
exact pipe.....

the shop is:

WirthAuto
phone #-618-284-3359
Roy is who I talked to....

good luck.....

Forgive me for a threadjack (sort of).

Back in '65 when lake pipes were real, at a wedding reception for a buddy of mine, the new Mr. & Mrs. were planning to slip away quietly later in the evening. Well a little wrench work on the lake pipe plugs prevented any plans for a quiet exit. [}]

As I recall, the bride ("She Who Wears the Pants") didn't think it was all that funny. My buddy returned from his Honeymoon with a new car. [|)]

Continuing threadjack....
Better than returning from Honeymoon in separate cars...

Hey MT...

I was thinking of getting the ones from JC Whitney myself. They offer different lengths and styles... which ones did you get?

If you can see them in my picture i have the 70" Triple style. Fills the space very nicely.

wyzard.....

70" as well.....

But I would save on the dollars and look
around....the store I bought the brackets
has the same pipes for tons less....next
time I would "seal" the chrome first.....

I just picked up some "flame" caps for the
pipes on ebay......hopefully arriving this
week......
