Default APC LED Bulbs

Anybody here using the APC LED bulbs for their taillights?? I installed the new APC Eurotails in December and bought the LED bulbs to use in the Brakelights. I was hoping to avoid the "melting" that occured with the older eurotails.

Well, the tailights haven't melted but I have replaced the Driver's side bulb a total of three times now. it seems fine at first but after a few weeks the LED's start dying. It only seems to happen on the Drivers side.

The last time I changed them I took the one from the passenger side which had been fine since the initial install and put it on the drivers side and once again it failed but the new one in the passenger side is working fine.

I finally broke down and put the factory bulbs back in.

Any thoughts on this one?? I know APC isn't the best but I find it hard to believe that I had 3 bad bulbs all in the drivers side.

thanks

I too have the APC tail lights with LED bulbs, for 6 months now.

Knock wood, but so far no real problems. I've become accustomed to the maniacal flashing rate for the turn signals.

Sounds like you have an electrical problem on the driver's side circuit.

Do your turn signals also blink rapidly, like mine.

My first set of lights melted. APC sent me the the "new and improved" version of the same tail lights with extra holes in the back to let out heat...they also sent 4 new LED bulbs. Like you, one of them burned out, so I took both tail lights out and replaced all four bulbs with the OEM ones that came with the PT hoping that with the extra holes to let out heat that they wouldn't melt again. It's been a few months now and I'm keeping an eye on them but so far no problem.....and with the OEM bulbs the brake and turn signals are much brighter than the LEDs.

I heard about the flashing problem. you can avoid it by only changing the Brake light bulbs. Leave the OEM turn signal bulbs in. They do not generate the same heat that the Brake light bulbs do.

Thanks for reply. I hope that APC learned something from the first set and fixed it in these. I have the "new" design (with the two circular peices that stick out from the main lens. I do not see any place where the heat can be vented. If I touch them after a drive for a bit they do feel very warm to the touch.

I do not relish the idea of buying new LED bulbs every month

You are right though the OEM bulbs are MUCH brighter...
