Default uncomfortable GT cloth front seats

Hello:

I'm new to the website, but am very impressed...Good job!. Anyways, I work for a Chrysler dealer and got a sweet deal on a 5 spd GT turbo in electric blue. I love the car and especially its pep. My only complaint is with the cloth front seats. I weigh 210 pounds and am 5'10"...not fat, but muscular ( I lift weights for a hobby)...anyways, I've been driving my Turbo for about two days now and find that the left side of the driver's seat seems to just dig into my thigh to the point that it is very uncomfortable. There must be some sort of molded plastic part in the foam and you can feel it if you pinch it. I wonder if anybody else has had this problem with the seats "pinching" and if it went away eventually...and if so..how long did it take? I swear I will get blisters from this.

I love this car, but the seat thing really has me frusterated. Any thoughts would be great. Any idea what it would cost to have the lower part of the seat redone...without the plastic base if it could be done?

Thanks,

Thayne

And for the wise guys...there is no way I'm sitting on a pillow...way uncool!.

Well, you took away my first suggestion

How bout taking it to a place that specializes in custom seats? They may be able to just take off the bottom part and put extra padding or at least find the part that's annoying and redo it.

Gee, I'm 6'4 and weigh close to 380 and I like the seats. They are comfy. And what surprises me is the passenger seat and the passenger leg room.

I believe CREWZIN's suggestion would work for you as I did something like that on a truck I once had and it made a difference. If not, you may want to consider getting some thick sheepskin covers for the front seats.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Thayne,

I have the same seats you do but don't experience the problem you are finding. I can see where someone with large thighs would be bothered by it. The molded piece does seem to be somewhat higher than the rest of the seat cushion. An automotive upholstery shop might be able to remove the fabric on that side and shave down that piece that is bothering you then reattach the fabric under the side.

If you want to take more drastic action, I bet someone on the forum might be interested in trading your GT seats for seats from their non-turbo PT.

Yo!

I went to a custom upholstery shop today. He indicated there is either a metal or plastic form in the base of the seat and it is this form that is digging into my thighs. He said it would only get worse, not better and the foam becomes weaker as the seat wears in. He suggested adding more high density foam along the edges of the form and inside of the seat and this should help significantly. He quoted me $65 per seat and said it would take a half a day.

I haven't had a chance to talk to my service guy at the dealership I work at, but I doubt there will be much they can do....but I'll let you all know and btw...thanks for the input. My wife suggested, letting myself go physically and getting a fatter butt....not an option.

Thayne

Your service guy should be able to order all new cushions under warranty. The misses has an 01 Grand Cheroke with cloth seats and they were horrible! It was like sitting on the seat frame. The service manager ordered new seat covers and cushions! Any way they ordered the wrong color and installed new and extra foam! What a difference. I would try to get them to replace so it's not out of your pocket. Just a thought [:I]
