One thing I strive for is stealth mods. I don't like the racer/ricer look and I try to preserve the beauty of the machine in styling. As such I want no gauge pods visible on the dash or frame of the car. Are there any recommended solutions that will toss the gauge into the instrument panel or otherwise out of normal sight to others (perhaps near the radio or center console somewhere)?

You could always make a mount for right under the radio, where the middle cubby is. You'd lose the use of that shelf, but oh well. You could also pull the lower power outlet and put a gauge into that spot. Unfortunately, neither idea puts it where it is easily readable while driving. You could also go with a single gauge cup right on the steering column, which while not exactly stealth, is stealthier than a pillar pod....

Unfortunately, there is no good spot in the dash anywhere in the PT for a boost gauge. I think that is why DC never put one in stock. All the places mentioned are almost completely useless due to the fact you cannot read them while under boost. Or at least I hope no one is staring down into the center console with their right foot on the floor! I have mine in a single pillar pod as close to dash as possible. I have seen a PT with a mustang dual gauge dash pod that looks pretty cool mounted right in the center of the dash, but of course, that isn't exactly stealth. I have also seen a few mounted right next to the emergency flasher button on the steering colum, but I wasn't too fond of that one.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will have to think on this one, perhaps there is some sort of series of LED's I could wire to simulate a guage but take up a lot less room. Of course, if that is the case then a multipurpose LCD screen would easily suffice for MP3/gauge readouts.

I have seen pics of people fitting in a small boost guage into the
instrument cluster in the space between the vent and the gas/temp guage, usually on the upper portion. It was a tight fit, but when done well looked practically stock. Paul |

Yeah, I might consider doing that, I was tossing with the idea of making a digital guage from the analog one (hide the guage somewhere else, run wires to where the digital would end up). The problem with that is now the failure of parts is compounded.

Here's some interesting links, depending on how handy you are:

The optional boost gauge for the wrx is 45mm ~ 1.75 inches.
Here is a link to a gauge and pod. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/45mm-...cmd ZViewItem I feel the same way you do. I want something that looks like it belongs. I do have a stock srt pod that im trying to make a place for. So far the only thing I can come up with is to mold it into the steering column cover next to the hazards. I just need to find a spare cover to work on. |
