Default Matte Black Hot Rod

I'm thinking of going in this direction with my PT Turbo. What do you all think?

I've seen a few of the "Matt Black" hot rods at some of the shows I go to. It looks kind of strange to see flames and elaborate pin- striping over the matt paint because we're accustomed to seeing Matt paint on the unfinished or "work-in-progress" type of vehicle.

Go for it! I've been thinking of a matte black repaint with glossy red flames for some time now. I think it would look great!!

I'm sure it would be different, and I like the look. Just make sure that you treat it just like any repaint, i.e. full prep and quality materials. A flatteneing agent can be added to regular paint to get the right look. Do some test panels to make sure you get what you want.

I think it would be cool too. I was thinking of a two tone paint sceme. With my factory Enferno red on top and flat black on the bottom half. I would then go back over the midle with a pair(one on each side) of matalic silver flames, strait down the midle of the 2 paint colors. Kind of like a dividing pin stripe, but made out of flames instead. Then I would think about some cool black rims to finish off the "blackout" look of the bottom of the car. It would sure be different. I'm going to paint one up of a toy PT I have so I can see how it would look. I'll post some pics when I get it done.

I wouldn't recommend the "matte black repaint thing" as your PT looks great the way it is now from the PICS that I have seen. On some of the "old restored hot rods" matte black looks fine but, IMHO, it might give the appearance of an "unfinished look" on a "modern" retro-styled PT Cruiser. [:I] However, if you like it--do it! [8D] Good luck.

Yeah thats exactly what I'm looking for, Slightly unfinished, industrial metal, retro hotrod look. I'm thinking of stripping away some of the layers of the PT to see what looks good. The VW pics posted earlier are just things that I think look awesome. My plan is to remove the fenders on the PT and to push out the tires as far as they will go. In a way it might start looking more like a prowler / VW Bug hybrid. But I am definitly going with the matte black color sceme. Wicked's idea about the black gloss flames on matte black is a great idea. I was thinking of doing some contuored race stripes from front to back over the top. For tires I was thinking white walled with red hub caps, or going with a modern industrial style rim, but in red.

So I'll post my results and I hope you all will too.

Actually, I said metalic silver seperating the 2-tone colors of red on top and flat-black on bottom. But glossy black on flat black might be cool too. Here is a picture I doctored up. I can't get the black to look flat/matt finish. But this should give you the idea. It's just missing the silver in the midle.
