Cal C's plate is probably legal. In Texas the only laws I've heard of are it must be between 6" and 24" from the ground and lighted in the rear. However he's covered up the cooling duct to the right front brakes. If you want to mount it to the side, you may as well bite the bullet, move it further over, and cover up the fog lights. No fog lights is better than fried rotor.

2sb,
That "cooling duct" is not doing you any good without ducting going to the brakes anyhow. It is more "show" than "go". Look around. Most cars do not incorporate this and work just fine. If you find yourself doing a lot of roadracing on the track, you can run ducting that will make these funtional, just like a race car does, then the plate issue is moot anyhow as you can unbolt it with 2 bolts. Additonally, the plate does not cover the duct. It does look like it from this angle though. Also I would rather have funtional lighting as I do drive at night/rain more than I race. They run ducting to brakes on race cars because they are being driven at 10/10's on the track and are constantly on the brakes to the point where they glow red. More than likely you will never drive your street car at 10/10's anyhow. I am planning on using the duct on the driver's side to run cool air to my intake too. It will not make a difference in my braking, trust me. Ford used the duct entrance on the mustang to put lights in. When we prepped it for racing we pulled the lights and ran the ducting. Not having it there before made no difference as a street car.

Yeah, this is the 1st car I have had a front plate on in years. But CA is starting to crack down on them, especially if you go to LA. LAPD is handing them out like candy from what I hear. My buddy got 2 tickets in one month for no plate on his car, and they are no longer just "fix it" tickets.

Just got my 03 PTGT and the dealer had already mounted that nasty front plate and ruined the bumper and clean look in my opinion.
If anyone has a bright silver metallic oem bumper left over from an upgrade, let me know, I will buy it and take my chances. ![]() |

The reason they want your front plate on is so they can photo cars burning red lights - the camera takes the pic of your license plate along with your position in the intersection. A week ago, some parking checker gave my wife a meter ticket as she was coming out of a store and told her "do you realize how much California loses in taxes every year because people run red lights without front plates?" Her response to the guy as she drove away, "I don't run red lights." Then two days later she was meeting a client in Beverly Hills and got a parking ticket for.... drum roll please....no front plate.
