Default Changing Shift Knob

I'd Like to know if anyone has changed out their shift knobs? If so, then how and which did you put on. Of course we're about to change ours. Ordered it tonight from Car And Truck Accessories. It's a Carbon Short Shift Knob. It's for our manual GT. So is it hard to remove the stock shifter or ar we in for a problem? Is this a job for the accessories department at our dealer? They by the way put our 6inch chrome shorty antenna on, along with the rear mopar mud guards. So I'm sure they'd by cool with this mod too. So anyone?

Thanks for the info. I like your shifter, where did you get it? The one we ordered is as i said before carbon fiber, has a graphite look to it, should go well with the graphite leather interior. Never could get used to the look of the stock knob. This will be last mod, I think. So far we've Tinted the front door windows, 6 inch chrome shorty antenna, rear mud guards, stream line design decals for visors and rear shelf, accu-pressure valve caps, and lastly the shift knob, NOW she's perfect! R RED GT is Awsome to say the least! thanks again!

I replaced the plastic stock shift knob on my GT 5-speed with the MOMO shown below. It is a very high-quality product made in Italy. Installation was not difficult.

MOMO Race Airleather Gear Shift Knob (Black Perforated Leather & Red Anodized Aluminum)

The stock shift knob on the GT is not threaded or glued. It has a "D-ring and clip" configeration. Took mine off in just a few minutes--wrap the knob in a towel, place a cresent wrench under the ball, tap firmly but gently with a hammer on the wrench which forces the knob upwards--the knob should "pop off" without damage to it or the shifter rod.

MOMO shift knobs come with several rubber adapters and set-screws--they should fit almost any type of shifter. From my experience, the fit is near perfect--custom-look, very firm, made to last "forever." I applied Locktite on the three set screws so I don't think they will loosen with use.

Good luck, Red GT.

I purchased my MONO shift knob at a local auto specility shop. I would think MOMO Products would also be available in your area. You can do a "search on the Web" and should be able to find some dealers. You most likely will have to pay full MSRP. There are few, if any, discounts from what I have seen. If you go to my website the company host sells these--just click on the ad for "Momo" and you will get a listing of specs, prices, etc. of the products made by MOMO. Here is a MOMO shift knob listing I found on the Internet which might be helpful: http://www.drivewerks.com/catalog/sh...nob-detail.htm

I really appreciate the info, thanks again. Being mechanically challanged, thought this might be a job for accessories dep. but after reading your change out, just might do this our selves, or try !! Can't wait to see it, should come by mid week next week. Isn't this car the best? We brought ours home the first week of april, then exactly 4 weeks later was sitting at a light in nuetral, when the light changed could not get to shift onto first!! What a horrible feeling. Finally Went into gear! got home and called the dealer, was told to call roadside assistants. They towed her to the dealer. Was told the next morning the clutch was gone and maybe the whole transmission. Oh MY! The dealer then discovered our clutch was a recall. The dealer was great, free car rental from late wednesday, till we picked it up the following monday,in perfect condition! The dealer was very good to us. I remember reading here that not everyone that had the bad clutch was treated too great. I feel very lucky we got ours from a good dealer that knows how to treat a customer, Didn't put out a dime for the mess! I ramble, sorry, thanks again for the shifter info, thia a great place for us red GT owners, huh?

Red GT,

Experiences like yours with the service department is one reason why someone would probably, when ready, buy another car from that dealer. Doesn't matter what brand of car, but it does matter on the service. I love my Cruiser but when the time comes to get another car I really doubt I will get another Chrysler. And thats a shame. Chrysler on the whole have the nicest looking line of cars. I mean their whole line not just one or two cars like other manufacters. What good is a good car if the people that work on it suck, such as Galenana Chrysler here in Fort Myers Florida. My hats off to you in having a good service department. I'm jealous.

bigdogdad,

Our dealer is a very good one. They didn't have the exact GT we were looking for, Inferno Red, manual, leather, 17 inch chrome wheels, you know, everything. So we left and went off to another dealer to see if they had what we wanted. They did not, wanted to sell us a black one, with everything on it, went so far as to not give us our keys to our trade-in, after my husband asked for them 3 times! It was getting very tense, they just wouldn't take no thank you for an answer! While we were sitting there, after they left us again to make another offer we got a call from our dealer, they looked all over the western US for our car. Found one in Las Vegas. This by the way was a Sunday. We finally got our keys back and left right away and booked it back to Earnhardt's in Tempe, AZ. Did the deal. They had it trucked down first thing Monday and we drove it home monday evening. What a rush! About a week later we had the accessory department put on our 6inch chrome shorty antenna and the rear mud guards, treat wonderfully. And you read the how we were treated about the recalled clutch, just GREAT! All in all this car has exceeded our exspectations and then some. Wish you could have had a better dealer. A good dealer is everything! We waited for three years for this car, it's perfect for us! Living here in the desert is great, sunshine and more sunshine day after day. We were Stationed in Tampa, at Mac Dill Air Force Base in the mid eighties. Loved Sand Island Beach! I ramble again. Thanks Again.

RedGT, are you sure about a 6 inch antenna? I mean that is REALLY short. I have seen 12" and 16" (what I have) but not a 6 inch. Do you get any reception?

Cal Cruzer,

Yep, 6inches. Hated that tall monster flapping in the wind out the corner of my vision. Don't know about the reception, hate radio, play CD's only. We have the 6 disk changer, play full CD's of what i like to listen to. My husband listens to sports news ans games on the radio, but drives our '01 Cavalier to work daily, and i have the Cruiser to run errands, we drive the Cruiser on weekend too. So the radio thing isn't an iaaue yet. We did Keep The original atenna in case it's a problem in the future. But the 6inch chrome looks really good, i must say. Got kudos from the accessory department when it was installed. We just haven't put the radio on yet to check it out. Just don't. Will Let you Know When it comes up. Got the antenna at shortyantennas.com
