For the last 5 years I've wanted to purchase PTeazer's smooth retro roll pan. I love the look and have read nothing but good news about their parts, etc. However (here's the big ole "but"), it sickens me to see their prices. Even more, it sickens me to realize that their price for their roll pan has not budged at all; in fact I believe it's recently increased. It's listed on their updated website for $535 plus an additional $45 for the 'steel reinforcement bar' (a necessity). A $450 price (including the 'steel reinforcement bar') has been instilled in my brain for as long as I can recall. I'm not too sure what is going on but in this world things have a tendency to either increase in value (as a collectible) or decrease in cost over time (a la computers). Anyone agree/disagree?

With the PT CRUISER up in the air as to weather it will be made any longer (last word is "yes" on the 4 door only) aftermarket dealers can be pretty well bet on the fact that not too many new dealers and parts will be coming on the market. Therefore, they can charge what they like for what they have. Suppy and demand.

I just bought the pteazer retro roll pan.I got it for $500 shipped from maggie at race and street. It seems pricey but it is worth it.My body shop says its 1 of the best aftermarket products they have seen in a while. You might be able to get a cheaper roll pan but then you might have to pay 10 hours of body shop labor to get it to fit right. So sometimes its better to buy a quality part and save in the long run.It does suck to cough up $500 but sometimes you have to do it.

ok, im going to jump in here. on the fit of the pteazer roll pan, YEs, they are one of the nicest fitting bumper covers out there, only slight cleanup needed for nice fitment. but, I would NEVER put one of these on my PT. ALL of the collision information given on their website is total and complete bull and will probably cost someone their life, at least their car. do not believe that replacing an engineered reinforcement with absorber that is designed to absorb collison engery with a 1INCH DIAMETER STEEL PIPE is a good thing. the bar sits further in than the liftgate, meaning that the reinforcement will not protect the liftgate as mentioned in thier site. if you install this, be aware that in a rear end collision, even a light one, your car will suffer ALOT more damage than with a factory bumper setup. rear body panel replacements and liftgates are not CHEAP on these cars. If i could, I would have their collision information BANNED from the internet and replaced with a WARNING about increased damage potential and increased risk on injury. as for the front bumperette kits......death trap. removing the front reinforcement affects AIRBAG TIMING, meaning that you will bounce off your steering wheel before or after the airbag goes off in the event of a front end collision. the 1 INCH STEEL BAR does NOT negate the damage like they claim it does. sorry to go off like this, but being a collision tech, i have to sound the warning bell when something aint kosher.

Pteazer roll pans......!
P.S. There are several other companies that make aftermarket roll pans....and with some very nice alternative back-up light designs. Most are less expensive than PTeazer. But, I have to tell you, I have had to replace the rear bumper on soonercruiser twice in one year from people hitting my rear end. If it would have been a roll pan, I probably would have had devastating damage to the rear end! Just my 2 cents!

Lets get things into prospective here, stastistics show that we are more likely to be injured crossing the road then anything else in the western world. If you like the Roll Pan then buy it and take no notice of the never readies or unsures as they will always doubt anything with a little risk and never do anything.
I have a Pteazer front end and rear roll pan and have been unfortunate to have two accidents. The first was a rear end which did a lot of damage, but the engineer inspecting told me that even standard there would have been loads of damage at the speed I was hit, however it does not put your life at risk. The front end accident was when I hit a staffordshire Bull terrier that totaled the front Pteazer body kit, but did no other damage, and the air bag did go off perfectly, although the dog did not fair well. |
