Default This is the factory headlamp sealer

As some of you know, I work for Hella here in the US, and in Mexico, Hella makes the headlamps and tail-lamps for the PT.
I e-mailed a contact at Hella-Mexico and asked him what is used to seal the headlamps from the factory, since many of you have chosen to remove the clear lens to be able to paint the chrome bezel inside the lamp.
I got a message back that what they use is called 'Butyl Hot Melt K292'.
I called the local Auto Refinishers Supply and they did not know of it, but he offered a couple of options I'll check into in the near future.it would seem that the 'Butyl Hot Melt K292' is something that needs to be applied with a hot gun of some sort.

I'll keep digging.

A quick search on Yahoo got lots of hits for Butyl Hot Melt.

I talked to a guy at an adhesives place, and to his knowledge, this is only available in bulk, which means you need an industril applicator. He recommended that I use an RTV silicone like GE RTV108 or GE SCS2800. This would be packaged in a caulking cartridge and should bond well to the substrates. You could also try a generic silicone from Home Depot.Just have to find one that isn't too liquidy at room temperature to keep from making a mess.

You may want to try Butyl tape. It is used in HVAC for sealing as well as installing aftermarket sunroofs. It is pliable, and easy to use.

The quickest way to get a small quantity of this would be to see if Radio Shack still sells a product called "Co-Ax Sealer". It would be a small roll (or strips) of Butyl tape around 1/2" wide that is used for sealing the coax connectors and cable where they are attached to an outside antenna.

If not there, try any 2 way radio shops that do installations; possibly checking with local public service agencies to see who does their radio/antenna installations.
