has anyone installed the projector haedlights from Hella? are they expensive?

Well I work for Hella here in lovely Peachtree City, GA, and the I am working on a set of these for my car.I will tell you it's not easy at all.It's a completely custom mod. I plan on using the 90mm Xenon low-Beam lamps and the Micro DE Xenon Driving Beams for high-Beams, but this is a long-term project.
It can be easy of cheap, depending on which way you go.If you go all Halogen (90mm Low-Beam using an H9 is part # 68137) then you can get the 90mm lamps at a decent price.Retail List is just under $90 a piece, but you should be able to find them closer to $50 or $60 a piece.They're sold as singles, and come with 4 mounting tabs and adjusting screws.It's up to you to provide a surface to mount them to, etc.If you go Halogen, you are kind of limited on your High-Beams.You can use a 90mm High Beam (68136) at about the same price, but the inner part of the lamp housing, where I would place it, is much smaller and may present some problems getting it in there. I am planning on going full Xenon.The Xenon low-Beams are part # 68139 and Retail List is $780 a piece, but you should be able to get them for about $490 or so.The Micro DE Xenon Driving lamps (74522) are sold as a kit (the others are sold as singles only) list at $1141.59, but you should be able to find them at about $720 or so. I made a mock-up of what the lamp would look like and took some pics.These are very rough and I only had the lamps held in with tape to get an idea of what they would look like. ![]() ![]()

About a year ago, I was corresponding with a guy who had the same idea. But he wanted to retro fit a '99ish Civic TYC projector assembly. Eyeballin' it, it looks do-able. The biggest issues you are going to have (I think) is beam adjustability and creating a finished look. This is where the TYC piece seems to shine. I don't know if you could refit the Hellas in there or not. If you are going your own way, are you going to retain the PT's reflector piece, paint them black and use them for the mount? Then the factory adjusting screw will probably be helpful. I've been inside these lamps http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...?TOPIC_ID=2851 and considered the Civic route, but $$$ is N/A and I am pleased what I could do for 5 bucks worth of paint. I do have an extra lamp assembly that I can use for experimental purposes. Can you link me to the Hella stats on these lights? I also want to find a cheap driver's side OEM Civic headlamp and see how well it fits da PT housing. Later.................................

Do you want specs, etc. for the 90mm Hella lamps, or the OE headlamps? I can't get you anything on the OE lamps, but you can see specs, drawings, etc. on the lamp modules that I want to use on our web site at www.hellausa.com.
Yes, the TYC lamps are nice, but you have to remember, they are making them as an assembly, in a plant, and the ones we are talking about would be fully custom.Yes, I will be painting the inside of the reflector area flat black, and the outer reflector possibly black or color matched to the car. The inner reflector is mounted in the housing using 3 nylon mounts, and if I can get an engineer here to do a cad drawing of a bracket utilizing these mounts for my lamps, I can just have a bracket made that will incorporate the factory mounts, and therefore adjustability, with the new modules.The only problems is that these lamps would not meet SAE certification when they are placed behind the OE clear lens.

I was unaware of the SAE issue. I guess that explains why the production hella kit (like the Ford Focus) has the 90mm's exposed.
I have to say the current Hella conversion kit for the PT looks [:0]. What happened? |
