Default Why Lower?

Everyone that sees my car says I should lower it. I ask WHY? ok, the car might be cooler. but with the snow and stuff around here, I imagion I would destroy my front fascia. Plus snow would probably build up under my fenders quicker. I would like to fill the gaps in the wheel wells, but for that I would rather put big / fat/ juicy tires in there. soon I will need tires, hope you guys can help me there. Gary

Here in So Cal snow is not a problem. I think you have to be practical with your daily driver. My car handles a lot better with my H&R's but it would be a snow plow in your area. Fitting airbags would seem to be one solution for the snowbelt but I have heard that it is not the best solution for handling.

If you want to reduce the open distance from the tire to the fender and the distance from body sill to ground, without lowering the car, try PTeaser's side skirt euroflare package. Another, less cosly way is to add a running board. That can make the body appear lower but it does nothing for the tire/fender gap.

You have to admit they look better lowered..gives the car some character.. Go with airride best of both worlds.. Eye pop'n drop for the shows, with the adjustability to go back to stock hiegths if needed for those steep driveways..

You could always go with a less drastic drop...or just do the rears as a lot of PT daily drivers have done...[:I]

There are some who think that a PT Cruiser has to be lowered no matter what the reason for not lowering it is. Some of them mistakenly equate lowering with hot rods and street rods.

Since I'm basing my mods on the style of a late '50s street rod, I've decided not to lower it. The rake that is already built in the PT Cruiser is reminicent of the ones on street rods in the '50s. Many street rod owners in those days created the rake by raising the rear end because they couldn't lower the front. It was a real cheap mod in those days. I remember some who actually raised the rear end by using bricks. It worked for a while at least.

Basset,
You are truely a throwback to the good old days of rod and customizing.. It is also good to see the younger generation take interest in the car as well putting a more trendier mark to the styling of the PT as well.. There is a fellow PT member that is running the same wheel and tire combo as yours.. looks sweet..Whether its lowered or stock they are a great car that brings the best out of any PT owner..

In Hawaii, in the '60's, I remember cars jacked up in the rear using shackles. Some more than others. Wow, memories.
