I just put on a shorter antenna and so far sounds good. When I start the car up in the garage its not that great but once out it is fine. I also live in a fairly small city, not to many tall/large buildings and basically no hills. Happy with it so far.

The mods look real nice.

Do you notice any issues with radio reception with the shorter antenna?
P, I have a shorty antenna, no difference in reception, as you know I commute on the 400, no problems with it except for rusting.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've noticed no problems with reception using the shorty antenna, not even in the garage. Can't say the same about the Sirius Satellite radio though - it flat out won't work in the garage.

As for the antenna rusting, I'll keep an eye on it. It rains for a couple hours every 3 months or so around here, so I'm not that worried. By the way, a billet aluminum antenna shouldn't actually rust, should it? I know aluminum can oxidize, but plain old every day rust?

Dang, that just does not look nice. The picture is a bit over exposed, but it looks like you've got a bunch of white crud building up on it, almost like galvanic corrosion. I wonder if the combination of different materials (the antenna and the insert) plus road salt is contributing to that. I take it from the appearance of winter tires/wheels and the layer of, um, environment, on your car that the weather has been less than kind. I'll keep a real close eye on this and make sure I hang on to my original. Thanks for the heads up - much appreciated.

Thanks for the pictures. I have a shorty antenna and have had no problems with it rusting in Southern California. Now you need the AC knobs like the ones I got for my ride.

I got them from http://www.mgwltd.com/pt_cruiser.html . They have red dots that light up at night.[8)]
