Default Exteroir, Interior Teflon Coating?

I just purchaced an 2004 GT. The dealer was pushing a Teflon Coating for both the paint (Inferno Red) and the interior. The package also included a car undercoating. It is suppose to reduce the noise. Has anyone heard anything about these products? It is advertised under "The Protector" name. The only info I have found is http://cpc-corp.com/pages/cpc-auto.html.

Thanks in Advance

When I bought my 2003, I was offered the typical Permaplate protectant but nothing including the word "Teflon." Wasn't even offered the undercoating option...probably due to the fact I'm in California and the chances of it snowing here are about as good as it snowing in hell. [}]

Lots of dealers offer it here in CA, but they change the pitch to "sound proofing". Just another dealer ripoff.

Concur. Just a ripoff!! Don't buy "special" packages from the dealer. They succeed in only one thing: Inflating the Dealers Profit Margin.

Nope, nothing mentioned about "sound proofing" either. Actually, my dealer (Codiroli Chrysler in Livermore) was pretty easy to deal with and no pressure. The only things they offered me were the Permaplate, extended warranty, and LoJack. I bought the LoJack as they gave me a better deal than if I purchased it on my own outside the dealer.

This post should be in detailing section, since I teach auto detailing, and focus on consumer education in car care, here are my comments. Car dealers are having a hard time making money on the price of the cars. People are more posted now on invoice prices, so dealers are taking advantage of the lack of education amoung their customers in other areas. Paint sealant is better protection, but not at the prices they charge ($500-$900) The teflon gimmick is a trick. Dupont Co, the maker of teflon has publicly stated that in order for teflon to be effective it needs to be applied at 900*, so unless your dealer is applying it with a flame thrower it is useless. True quality paint sealants consist of amino-fuctional resins that form a stronger chemical bond on your finish. Now days, the chassis is already coming from the factory with rust proof coating under the car, unlike years ago, so that is also another profit center for the dealer. Being uneducated cost consumers millions of dollars each year. This is one reason why my detailing clinics are so popular. I can show you how to put on a professional paint sealant and save you BIG BUCKS. Let me know if I can help further. Gary

Thanks Gary, I find that you are the most honest detailer I have ever heard and I applaud you for that.

A few from the PT clubs in So Calif paid upwards of $1,000 for the exterior teflon coating at dealers. Durring the recent forest fires some of the cars were left out and the cold embers hit their cars and the teflon did not protect them at all. Sure the dealers redid their cars but that is not what they said the coating would do!!
