Default Flame Kit Removal

Hey All,

My name is Jason and I'm new here. Just purchased my first PT a little over a month ago. A 2003 Inferno Red GT auto with all the fixins...perfect condition...11K on the odometer...paid $17.3K...feel like I got a pretty good deal and I absolutely LOVE the vehicle. The only thing I'm not real enamored with is the flame kit (of the factory sort...not aftermarket). I'd like to get it removed if possible. Can this be done with no ill effects on the paint? If yes, who can provide me with this service?...body shop maybe? Any idea what it would cost? Any help with this matter is truly appreciated. Oh, and I've already got $2K stashed away for Stage 2 and exhaust...no such thing as too much horsepower...can't wait!

Thanks again,
Jag (Jason)

^ thanks for the useless post

You should be able to remove them yourself on a sunny day with some goo gone.

What's up 98 Neon Driver?[:I] Why are you giving me a hard time for welcoming someone to the forum? I did not have an answer at the time but wanted to leave a welcome anyway.

I have spent many hours finding information to assist people on this forum. If I don't have an answer or time to double check an answer I will still leave a 'Welcome'. When I've had time to get or check the information I will return and give an answer, if someone else hasn't all ready answered the question.

Why do you have a problem with that?

Sorry JAG, I was so distracted by Neon's post that I forgot to post the info I had found, check out these links:

Welcome, Jag!
You got a VERY good deal.
Only caution on removing the flames is that the paint MAY be darker under the vinyl since it was protected from the sun. I suggest you try the least noticable area and see - you MAY be left with a "shadow" of where the kit was. If it wasn't on too long, shouldn't be a problem.

You may be pleasantly surprised when you do remove the decals that there will be no trace of them (fading, discoloring, etc). My husband just had his PT stripped of all it's decals (some of you may know Bugdude and PTGLRY)...the decals were 3M and there was not one trace of discoloration or fading when the body shop peeled them off. It can be a timely process as the decals will probably come off in thin layers.

Try a nonabrasive adhesive remover and be patient!

Thanks to everyone for the hospitality and helpful info. My PT was actually sitting in the sun for a while today and the surface was hot to the touch, so I tried peeling off one of the smaller sections of flame...came off easily and you would never know it was there! I then peeled off a large section on the hood, which gave me a little more trouble and left some traces of adhesive. There doesn't appear to be any difference in color though and the remaining adhesive will be a snap to eliminate. Who knew it would be so easy?! Anyway, I'll be removing the rest this weekend then shinin' her up real nice! Thanks again for the help!

Apparently 98 don't remember being welcomed (or maybe he wasn't). I know when I signed on and was welcomed, I felt like I belonged here. Everyone knows that you post a lot of great sites and answer a load of the questions we all have. If 98 really feels that way he should have kept it to himself. Thanks,[^]for all you do IRPT!!!
