Previousley it had died the same way but always started right away. Now it's been a week and still wont start turns over Error code says 0340, changed senser , still wont start. It trys to turn over but no luck. Also yesterday it backfired one time.

2001 Cruiser with 98,000+ miles. Runs great. Have had a couple of major issues, but all were eventually resolved. (Gotta love extended warranties:))

HELP! It seems the cruise control arm has broken inside the column. Got out on the highway after work today, pressed the magic button, pushed the arm down to engage and...nothing but a flopping control arm. :(

Husband took a look, and we have question(s):

*Any tips on removing the steering wheel cover so he can take a look at what the problem is without screwing up the air bag and/or other stuff?

*Hubby can probably fix it, but we would like some general direction on how. He's worked on all our vehicles, but he's a little reluctant without some kind of diagram so he can see what he's getting into. Any suggestions?

*Is this a common problem? We live in the southwest, with summer temps consistently over 115 for weeks on end. Could heat have possibly weakened the arm at its base?

Really appreciate any advice. We bought it used three years ago because it was all we could afford at the time; and we (I) promptly fell in love with it. Unfortunately, I do a lot of highway driving and use the cruise A LOT!

Thanks in advance.:D

My compressor doesnt even kick on and now to make matters worse the car is starting to overheat... There is power going to the compressor, and it is new.. Also what type of relays are the acc fan?? I know they are 12v 40 a, four prong, now will any type of relay do?? Lets just say the parts people around here are not to bright and the mechanics just want to run up the bill with out fixing the problem... Is there something I am missing with the compressor?? What about the wires that connect to the compressor in the back, High pressor sensor is new also along with the switch on the accumalitor.. I am beating myself in the head here. To recap, no cold air---- compressor wont kick on--- starting to overheat-----.. Any help would be nice... I am up for looking at anything here or trying

Hi All,

I just signed up and have a strange problem with my 06 PT Touring with 86K miles. I've already had the typical front end rebuild done - lower control arms 20K ago (still fine), struts 20K ago, upper strut caps / bearing plates and sway bar links 2 weeks ago, and both right side motor mounts last month. All work performed at the dealer. The strange problem lies in a metal to metal clunk (sounds like lug nuts shaking in a coffee can) coming from the right front, when going over bumps. The dealer insists the entire front end is tight, but i think otherwise. I've had the inner fender liner out, the RS cowl cover and washer bottle out (checked for loose items under the cowl - nothing). Brakes are brand new - with rotors - no pad chatter. Even took the dash cover out and looked there - nothing moving around. I'm thinking it's a bad strut - but there are no signs of them being blown, and i was told they were fine when the bearing plates were done (thought the plates were the source of the noise). Am i possibly missing something here? Help would be appreciated.....thanks.

Hello...
New to the forum but not new to PT's. We have an 02 (very trouble free) and just sold a Vanilla 06. We came across a great deal, a Marine Blue 06 manual and now we are back to a 2PT family!
My question is on the back stop lights. The center light works, but the two stop lights do not work. One of the reasons the car was a good deal is that the rear right tire exploded which destroyed the wheel well outer and inner panel. It also took out the light and wires. I believe the stop light wire grounded out which caused the short. Researching the forum, and others, apparently, there is an electronic over-current stop module device in the TIPM. The fix is a reset, but in all the threads that I have read, the dealer would not advise how the reset was done. I visited the dealer and they want about $100 dollars to reset the lights... Does anyone know if there is a DIY way to reset?

Has anyone else experienced the car pulling one way while accelerating and the opposite way when coasting? When I accelerate, the car pulls to the right. When I take my foot off the gas, it gives a pretty good tug to the left. Is this normal? I've mainly driven rear wheel drive vehicles in the past and have never experienced this with any of those. I'm currently driving a '95 Lumina and it does not do this either. I'm wondering if it's normal for this car to do this.

My girlfriend has an '01 PT. I've read that it's a very common problem on the '01s to have issues with the CMP sensor. I took the car to my local mechanic. I've been using him for a few years now and he's always helped me out with stuff. He did a diagnosis on the car and told me the coil is weak and that the 3rd spark plug is supplying a very weak spark. On my way home this morning from his shop, the car finally threw a light. (I've been waiting for it to do this because it's been sputtering badly.) I checked the code and it's P0340 which is the CMP sensor circuit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that goes out or acts up, the coil is going to act up as well. This in turn, leads me to believe that the $477.xx my mechanic wanted to do a full tuneup on the car is not needed. I'm fully capable of doing the tuneup myself so I wouldn't have paid him anyways to do that. I guess my main question is, should I throw the money at the CMP sensor or should I do the tuneup? I've read that there could be other reasons that the CMP sensor could act up, one possibly being the coil. Should I go by the code or by what my mechanic told me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, by the way, this is my first post on this forum so hello to all.

Okay, here is the briefest run down I can give and I hope anyone might have some insight or ideas...

Check engine light came on, was bucking. Got p0340, had well recommended independent shop within tow range change the cam shaft sensor. Ran fine for a week, then the light and bucking came back, this time p0344. Mechanic, having only ever changed the oil on one other PTC, put my old part back on and refunded my money.

Carefully drove it to nearest dealership, was able to avoid bucking by being very even and aware when accelerating. Chrysler put on new, MOPAR sensor, called to say it didn't fix it, said they were confident it was slipped timing. Quoted me $1095 for timing/water pump. Called my regular mechanic who said he could do it for $4-450. Had it towed to him, he pushed it into his service bay before cracking her open to be extra careful based on what the dealership had said.

Said there was a trans code when he read it, but timing lined up perfect, belt was only worn as is normal for 05 w/ 78k miles, small leak in water pump so doing that (and of course, timing) regardless. Put it back together and drove it 5x, never got the light or bucking. Had his dad, the shop owner and head mech, drive it a couple of times - he also had no problems or light. They even asked me to come drive it to see if there was some way I drove it differently; no light, no bucking, no clue. Grateful things seem okay, but now paranoid. Mech said he'd do timing/water and to call/bring it back if it acts up again.

His theory is the trans code was either old and never cleared or when it was bucking, the pcm threw it because of all the jerking. I called the dealership to ask, as they said nothing about trans code, nor was it in any of the laundry list of things they saw/recommended. Agreed it might be old or fluke.

When I drove it to the dealership, I was careful to keep the rpms under about 3k, but that was out of concern in general. Before when she bucked, I did not notice any revving that seemed unusual or out of sync. When I drove her, she accelerated without slippage and all rpms seemed in line with how I was driving at the time, gears all engaged smoothly and normally. My mechanic even said he drove her a little hard trying to make the light/symptoms return, once the first few times of driving her normal resulted in nothing as well. He didn't notice any issues with the tranny then, either.

So, yeah. I know it's a lot - trust me, according to the ridic VIN report, Chrysler found a LOT more they thought she 'needed' that my guy couldn't find any validation in (aside from the water pump leak) and they didn't even open her. I can't imagine what else I would have 'needed' if I had allowed them to crack her. I have three years of payments and can not afford for this car not to last me until then, nor can I afford anything so big ticket as a tranny, rebuilt or otherwise, so if you guys can see ANYTHING here that might be related, please let me know. Also, if there's some way you want even more info, just ask! THANKS AGAIN!

Transmission Replacement Question

I have a 2003 Base PT and the tranny went out on it (wont disengage out of gear, and it has new bushings). I am looking for a rebuilt tranny for it. Are the Turbo trannys compatable with the base model engines or do I need to buy a non-turbo tranny?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Torque Convertor Replacement

Weeks back I began to notice a rattling noise when my Cruiser was in gear. Took it to Chrysler and they said it was the Flex Plate and it needed to be replaced. The next day they called and said it was the Torque Convertor that was bad and that the cost went from just under 500.00 to just over 1000.00 :eek:because of the cost of the part.

Got the car back and it was nice and quiet. A few days ago something started praying on my mind about the extended warranty. I called Chrysler and they confirmed that my 2003 Ltd. has 7/70,000 warranty. I pulled up information on the 7/70,000 and found out that the part was covered and all I should have paid was a 100.00 deductable.

I was off Friday so back I went to the dealer. Asked for the Service Manager and was informed that he did not come in till 11:00am. Was told to talk to Service Writer. So I went out to the writer and explained the situation and he agreed that I should have not been charged and did the paperwork to get the refund of over 900.00. Only took about 15 minutes otal!

Now the odd part. When talking to Chrysler concerning the warranty, they said that if they had keyed in the vin and checked "properly" that they would have known it was a covered part, etc. This tells me that they either did not check or they were hoping to "pull the wool" over my eyes.

I am probably done using that dealer.
