Hey guys. I need some help, please. I bought my current 05 GT Cruiser back in March of this year with 38k miles on it. I had an 04 turbo lite before that. So far I have only had to replace the front wheel bearings and the tires. I think that I will be needing lower control arm bushings soon.

Anyways, the car is approaching 55,500 miles and I am about to have the tranny flushed with the next oil change, this week. My problem is that I have a sound coming from the engine that sounds like a rattlesnake. The car doesn't do it at idle, only under acceleration, gentle or hard. When I had my oil changed last, the guys oiled my belt and the noise went away for approx 200 miles and came back. They also told me that my belt looked like brand new.

So, I set up an appointment w/my local Chrysler dealer. Well, after waiting an hour, they came back and told me that they would have to start taking things off the engine to diagnose the noise. I would have to set up another appointment. I have the 7yr/70k powertrain warranty and cannot afford to pay them to take the car apart just to tell me that it wasn't cover under warranty.

The car runs perfect but the noise is driving me crazy! Sorry for the long post but I need some help. Thanks!

well got a few goodies for the pt, should be done with it on wednesday. I got the following:

-agp wastegate actuator- will do a vacuum reroute when installed to rid a little ptb, but i drive really easy as is so that's not a problem.
-agp dogbones- my mounts are broken and these are a tad more than new soft mounts. I've read good things.
-booger bushings- my shifter bushings are shot so for $21 can't beat it.
-sachs oem clutch kit-2 year warranty and was $206. 20% more torque and had 60k on my clutch, figured why not. rear main will be done as well
-65k used tranny-500 shipped from florida, 12 month warranty on it for the 5spd.

what do you all think? i ran a 15.0 at 96 best with a lot of wheel hop so after the first run i just eased off the line. i was spiking 14psi and holding 8-10 at redline so hopefully i'll gain a little more up top with the new wga. i thought of a LSD but for 1600, i'll pass on it.

oh and my car weighed 3120 at the track with no back seats and over a half tank of gas

My guess is a broken/chipped tooth of some kind. any other ideas?

A couple of questions.

1) I have just purchased a 2006, turbo-lite, convertible w/ 26,000 miles on it. I would like to replace plugs and wires b/4 winter. Researching here has given me a bit of a headache  I am leaning to iridium plugs NGK?? and these wires found on ebay: PT CRUISER TURBO 10.2MM RACING SPARK PLUG WIRES BLUE:eBay Motors (item 260403263272 end time Nov-27-09 13:28:17 PST)

Sound ok? What gap? I have seen .040 and .028 to .032 posted..

2) I have seen a strut tower bar advertised. Would that improve anything on an 06 vert? It seems to have a tendency to have front end shimmy over slight bumps, windshield shakes a bit etc.. To the best of my ability, I have looked at tie rod ends, bushings etc...(Maybe this is just a vert thing??)

3) This one is a bit... well hard to ask.. How fast should the starter crank the engine over? Car starts fine BUT the engine seems to crank slow. (At least slower than the other cars I have owned unless the batteries were low) No warning codes...should I have the battery checked??

Thanks in advance..

my Haynes manual refers specifically to relays mounted to the radiator on turbo models and I see 2 boxes that look like relays on the driver lower corner below the battery

think it might be the relays or the temp sending unit (where is it located)

thanks for any input, I did search overheating, fan, coolant fan, relay and couldn't find anything to help

Lots of acceleration, but then the light comes on about a minute later (maybe less). I can clear the light by disconnecting the negative battery terminal, but the next time I punch the throttle on the highway, the light comes on again. The engine temp gauge usually reads just below 50%. Any ideas?

I'm currently in the market for a GT 5spd with sunroof and have found 2 in may area. Both are equipped almost identically.

The first one is an 03 with 42k. Not crazy about the color (light gold) but it is clean and low mileage for the year. No spoiler and a few little accents like the 04 and up pedals...

The second one is an 04 with 85k. LOVE the color (E blue) and its clean, but carfax shows a police reported accident. Somehow it contacted another vehicle and rear area damage was reported.

My question is that since the obvious choice here is the 03 is there any reason that I should stay away from it? I know that 03's had no spoiler and smaller injectors and the possibility no LDS, but is that all? I believe that I can live without these items, but is there anything else that I should know about the 03's?

Thanks
I am installing command start as well. When the windchill is -50 degrees, we need help starting our cars.
After having the car checked at a local Chrysler dealership, a ridge is wearing on the rotors and a front control arm bushing needs replacing plus rear bushings are loose. With this car being only 2 years old, should I be finding these type of repairs???

He replaced it and everything was fine for about 2 hours when the engine light came back on and I had the same problem. Also, after returning from a 7 day cruise I had a dead battery. It checked out to be in very good condition. And one time before my cruise the car shut off while at a light and started right back up. Are all these problems related?

my '03 pt cruiser has been overheating lately to the point that there is a bubbling noise, smoke coming out, the whole deal.

we checked the oil and coolant levels and when we filled them up, it was still the same problems.

so we added water to the radiator thing.... and so while running the car to see how it worked, it took a little while longer to overheat but regardless, it still overheated.

could it be a stuck thermostat? that's all we can come up with. any other suggestions are truly appreciated.

THANK YOU!
