 I would like some feedback on Cooper Cobra tires and Falken ZE-912 tires. I currently have 205/55/16 Goodyear Eagles that need replacing. Considering 215/55/16 Cooper Cobras that a friend has for sale. But also have read that Falkens are good tires too. Any suggestions?

Hello there, it´s my first thread here!

Hello there, it´s my first thread here!

I have a 2005 Pt Cruiser Limited 2005 with just 28k kilometers on it. I live in Brazil and this car runs with me just once a week. The thing is that my car is fully armoured (bullet proof) IIIA NIJ, it has heavy windows (21mm each) and some heavy materials on it. I know it wasn´t the best car to armor, but here in Brazil unfortunatly violence is a major problem in São Paulo and Pt cruiser is considered as a luxury car. (believe it or not).

The thing is that my car suspension with just 28k kilometers is gone. It became a really unconfortable and hard ride. Thats because the armor adds around 300- 350 kg on the car. But that it is not normal for an armoured car.. My friends armoured 3 series changed its suspension with 80k kilometers for example.

Do you guys have any sugestion of how can I improve the suspension durability and confort for my heavy weight car?

I tought of various ways to improve its suspension durability. I´m thinking in getting the Tein coilovers (I saw it on Horsepowerfreaks website). But I´m not shure if spending US$ 1700 will realy make a big difference from the stock durability dampers. I, for sure, dont want to drift or drag race with this car. It´s heavy and I only think in it as a cool, confortable and safe car to ride. (Will be soon posting pictures of the changes I´ve made on it since new).

I think that the major suspension parts that I really need to change right now is the bushings. I´ve read somewhere that the OEM ones is made of rubber, and maybe because of humity and 4 years (since I got it new from the dealer) may have cause premature abrasion on it. I´ve saw the "5.18108 HyperFlex Master Kit Chrysler PT Cruiser 01-05" that is made of polyurethane, a material way better than rubber.

I´ve also saw some kind of air suspension lift (the name is "Air suspension 1000", but for the cheap price (around 90 dollars) I have doubts if it´s not dangerous to use it full time, and the durability of this thing.

Please I accept suggestions.

Thank you very much

Okay, I've got a 2001 PT with a bad front wheel bearing... Not too bad at 140,000 miles to have to replace a wheel bearing... Anyways, seems there was a design change to the wheel hub between 2001 and 2002 on these, according to this article:

"The Timken Company (Canton, Ohio) announced it will be supplying DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler Group (Auburn Hills, Michigan) with more bearings in 2002 for the hot-selling Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Most significantly, the 2002 PT Cruiser will be using Timken's UNIPAC ™ front hub assemblies with tapered roller bearings.

The PT Cruiser currently (2001) uses NSK hub assemblies with angular contact ball bearings.

For the new front hub assembly, Chrysler called in four bearing manufacturers and asked for designs which would have quadruple the service life of the current unit. Three presented larger ball bearing units, while Timken's not only used tapered roller bearings but also had the same dimensions as the current unit.

Chrysler's switch from ball bearing to tapered roller bearing hub units in the same vehicle is not unprecedented. A number of years ago, General Motors found ball bearing hub units in its larger front-drive cars were not holding up. A new tapered roller bearing hub assembly was developed with the same envelope dimensions and installed as a running change. "

Okay, so now here's my problem.... Because I know I should replace the hub along with the bearing.... I found that the hub for the 2001 is not available aftermarket, and I have to pay a small fortune at the dealer for the part.

My question is, with the info from the article about the 2002 Timken design being "same dimensions as the current unit" and "installed as a running change" I'm hoping that possibly the 2002 hub and bearing can be installed on the 2001 PT.

Has anyone tried this? Any issues? If at all possible, due to the greatly reduced cost and aftermarket availability, I'd like to install the 2002 hub and bearing on my 2001 PT. I found 1 internet parts site that says the same hub fits 2001-2009 (most sites only list 2002-2009), so I'm hoping perhaps this is a perhaps little known replacement option, and not just a mistake on the part of the parts site. From the look of the part, at first glance it seems like it should do the job, since I don't think the axle shaft has changed between model years.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I just purchased a 2003 PT CRUISER TOURING...so far I really enjoy driving the vehicle...there was a small rattle I thought on drivers side floor board when I test drove the vehicle but it was so small that I overlooked it. I really did not have time to do a thourough job investigating...I really needed a vehicle asap.

So, once I put in more air in the tires the rattle became worse. Usually the rattle happens over bumps and turning ect...bumps are worse....

Any suggestions what this "MIGHT" be...and

Opinions on cost to repair....and also what do you think my options are with this small dealer?

Thanks for all the advice!

Hi Everyone and Anyone,

I was interested in getting some decent snow tires for my Cruiser (live way northern NY) and found a decent deal on some Firestones from Tire rack. Here's where I kind of "put the cart before the horse". The wheels on mine are the 16" steeel ones with the ever so fallable flaking chrome plating, so instead of putting them through another winter of crud and salt, I opted to get the 15" Firestones thinking "there's gotta be million leftover/abandoned plain-jane-base-model 15" wheels in junkyards everywhere, right?" Wrong. Can't seem to find any anywhere that is reasonably close to me. So, what I wonder is, are there different Chrysler 15" steel wheels that will effectively work with an 01 Cruiser Limited? Seems like they wouldn't make ALL their base model wheels propietary and vehicle-specific, would they? or am I naive about this too? And finally, if I can't find any used ones from the local junk yards, does anyone have knowledge of where to get plain steel wheels online with out getting beat up too bad on the price?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi everyone! I am new to the forum and new to PT Cruisers. I got my 2007 base model in marine blue pearl on Oct. 1st and I am really excited about all mods everyone is doing.

I apologize if this has been posted about before. I've searched for the past 2 days and didn't see anything.

Here's the deal. I bought these "full wheel baby-moon" hubcaps: PT Cruiser Full Wheel Baby Moon Hub Caps Hollywood 15":eBay Motors (item 350236518480 end time Dec-03-09 13:31:59 PST)

I was under the impression they covered the whole steel wheel. When they came out of the box it became clear that there is maybe 3/4 of an inch of the black steel wheels that will show around the edges.

I want to paint the steel wheels (or at least a couple of inches all the way around) either body color or hot pink.

Has anyone painted their steel wheels before? If so, what did you use and did it last? I don't want to spend a ton of money on this because I have some financial obligations at present that are taking up most of my funds (hence why I bought the cheap hub caps in the first place).

I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions anyone can share with me!

Thanks so much!

Now, it's come to my attention that I'm also going to have to pick up a pair of these camber bolts that I've located at NAPA and also at Advance Auto Parts.. My questions are as follows:

1) I've done a tiny bit of research about the difficulties of getting a proper alignment after lowering and have discovered that a 2.75" drop should result in approximately a 2.25 decrease in camber. The camber bolt kits I've located at NAPA correct +/-1.75, whereas the Advance ones are from Moog and correct +/-1.25. Will these suffice even though they may not fully compensate for the drop in camber? Which would be best for my application?

2) For those that have been nice enough to document their strut/shock swaps using pictures, guides, notes, etc., do any of you have any pictures of exactly which bolt this alleged 'camber bolt' replaces in the strut assembly?

Thanks very much in advance for your insight! :D

Its great I already started working on my rough idle and it seems to be working great info here. I also have a noise in my front end (drivers side I believe). It is a rapid rattle an be heard more than felt but it can be felt somewhat. It only happent when I crest a hill where the weight gets a bit lighter on the front end. As soon as all weight gets re distributed the noise stops. It makes no other noises in the suspension. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I've been collecting some of the dimpled aluminum wheels to make up a whole set. For $20, I bought one that has no trace of peeling or corrosion anywhere. Unfortunately, the inner edge is bent outward about 1/8 inch in one spot. It's as if the PO drove it up a curb edge and only impacted that part. It looks otherwise good and passed the roll test on a flat surface. Can it be salvaged?

I used to save steel wheels in this condition, but aluminum is not something I know about.

I figured for $20 I could whack it back into shape with a hardwood block and a hammer or at worst have a nice looking hose reel.

Hi there all my name is frankie. Well i'm not really the new pt cruiser owner my gf is she bought a 2007 with about 36k miles on it about 2 months ago.

Well here our problem. My gf about a month ago apparently hit a curb going about maybe 15 or 20 (i'm not too sure she said she didn't know her speed) or more head on with her front passenger side wheel while making a turn. No physical damage was done according to her, so she didn't tell anyone.

Well now about a month later (today). I was driving around with my GF, my brother and my sister a full load of people in the car costume shopping. We stop at jack in the box and get our food i pull out but didn't notice how long the curb to my right was and while making a right turn into a gas station leaving the drive thru i curved the back rim going about 5-12mph. we get the the gas pump to check rim damage and none is visible.

Well now about 5minutes later we start to hear Really loud squeaking coming from the front passenger wheel when i have to brake hard (not super hard just fast really). My brother is a mechanic type of guy and knows a lot about cars. He thinks its just a worn brake pad or maybe the brakes are just heated up too much. The squeaking only happens when all four of us are in the car and i have to brake hard which in las Vegas tends to happen every now and then with people cutting me off, but when the car load is light the squeaking isn't heard.

Its night time now so i can't inspect it myself with my brother and we both work tomorrow. I was really just wondering as if it could just be a worn brake pad or worst case scenario a worn bearing since this seems to be big common problem on almost all PT cruisers.

Thank you for you time and reading my situation. Any help would be much appreciated.
