Windshield Wipers Won't Shut Off

2006 PT Cruiser

My windshield wipers won't shut off. In both the off position and the slowest intermittent position the wipers work at a faster intermittent speed.

In all other intermittent speeds and full on they appear to work properly.

I believe the problem is with my switch.

Does anyone have any ideas.

As a temporary fix I would like to take out the fusible link but it is not marked which link it is either in the car guide or on the panel cover.

I'm not working right now so any ideas would have to be cheap even if only temporary.

argentum13, welcome to the Forum!! How many miles do you have on your PT? Is it still in the warranty period?? I agree with you that it probably is the the switch. I'd contact a dealer to see if it would be covered.

My Cruiser has just over 80,000 miles on it so the warranty has expired. I thought of just taking out the fusible link and putting it back in when needed for the next while but I found out it doesn't have a fusible link. So I may have to take off the wiper arms which is a lot more troublesome.

Did you ever solve the problem with your wipers?

No. As a temporary fix I now take the blades and arms off when there is no rain and put them back on when there is rain.

I thought of taking out the fusible link each time but there is no fusible link for the wipers according to Chrysler.

I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to wire in some switch which I would then be able to clink off and on according to need. But the wiper motor is covered under the hood with a lot of stuff.

I'll post the solution when I get it solved.

any progress? we have the same problem with our '06. i'll probably head to the parts yard here to get a replacement switch. you can pull one off yourself and buy it for about $15.

it's been 2 years since the last post. has anyone had any luck fixing this?
