Default What's with these advertisements that aren't being delt with?

I'm getting kinda tired of signing in and the first thing I see is a thread advertising some kind of Ipod or media service that has nothing to do with the forums. Why isn't a moderator deleting these threads rather than allowing them to use up server space?

Is this some kind of free advertising that's being allowed for some reason?

Such as this one, for example:

Chris,

Behind the scene's I'm deleting at least a dozen or more of those SPAM threads each day. There's a filter for these kinds of threads but apparently it's not good enough to stop them all. If I even stopped for one day, this forum would be loaded with them, so be patient and they will be gone when I get to them.

What you aren't noticing is that you don't see the same user name appearing twice, because I'm deleting the user and posting as soon as I see them.

If you look at the bottom of the page that has all the names of the people that have signed on in the last 24 hours, you'll notice all the ones I've banned. The user name appears in blue with a line through the name of it.

Of the 3 moderators on this forum, the other two don't come around much. It's left up to me to clean up the forum and I do have another life (although it seems I'm here all the time). I log on several times a day, when I'm at home and the first thing I do is delete the unwanted posts. So again, be patient, don't click-on or respond to the SPAM posts as it only takes a second to get rid of them but if there any responses from non-spammers (real members) attached to the real SPAM they can be accidentally banned also if I'm not careful.

If you see the time my post was put on the forum, it's 5:30am because I've come to clean up the forum before I go out all day with my Sheriff's work 3 times a week. Most SPAM posts pop up overnight which makes me believe they come from overseas (day time there, night over here), so I try to get of as many as I can before going on patrol the rest of the day.

Have a good one.

Not up to me. The owner of the forum is called Neon and he's somewhere overseas also and only pops in once in awhile.

Chris,

Didn't mean to go on like that (at 5:30 this morning) but I do try to keep this forum as clean as possible. I'm the most dedicated person I know and am always getting into trouble with the wife and son (when I'm up in Virginia visiting the Grandkids) because I'm always walking over to the computer during breaks and checking the forum. My wife says I'm addicted, my son thinks I'm nuts.

Besides the spam, I also try and look at each and every posting anyone makes. You never know when things can get out of hand with differences of opinion. I won't ban anyone for it but sometimes I do have to close a thread when feeling start to get out of hand.

I think you're doing a hell of a job all by yourself Mr Crewzin.

I'm sure these forums would be unreadable if not for your dedication

Stick with it Crewzin. Maybe someone else would volunteer to be a admin also. Someone who is more computer savvy than I.

I'll be third or fourth in line to thank you for the job you do, Carey. Most of the spam threads are posted after midnight, so people need to understand that you can't sit at your computer 24/7 to delete them. I've moderated forums before, so I know the responsibility associated with it can be very demanding, especially when (like in your case) you're essentially the only admin on the board..

EDIT: Oh, and thank you for FINALLY closing that thread in the FS forum. I was getting extremely sick and tired of people posting on threads that are 6 years old, not taking the time to READ.
