I don't know how they hold up next to neons, but they don't pull nearly the amperage to run. They only pull 2 Amps, no transformer involved like there is with neons. Yes they do have 7 patterns, plus constant on. I believe it's only legal to use them without patterns while driving in Ohio, other states, different laws.
I got out my handy Rhino Ramps, and used one in the front, one in the back and tilted the car up on each side to work.
It was easy to wire, I heavy duty zip tied the front one to the frame under the radiator, and I did the same in the rear, put it in the brace housing the rear axel, only way the wires would reach up front. I gathered all the wire leads into the front brace/beam just behind the front axel, plugged them all in, and ran the connector for the control panel to the drivers side firewall. Lots of strong zip ties all along. I also used a 5" strip I cut from a 5 gallon plastic bucket to make a splash guard to cover the wiring junction box and wiring. I attached it with zip ties through some holes I drilled into it.
There's a hole for a clutch pedal with a cover over it on the firewall. I removed that cover plate. (the bolts are accessable from inside, really tight to put it back in through the engine compartment, used a magnet on a stick, took 2 people to get it back in.) I notched the cover plate to accommodate the cable, and sealed it with silicone caulk after reinstalling it.
I mounted the controller to the bottom cover under the steering column. Hooked the positive to one of the wires coming out of the fusebox that was only hot when ignition is on. Loosened a screw on the dash support and wrapped the ground around it. Worked first time!
Not nearly as hard as I thought. I spent more time worrying about having to drill a few small holes in the side seams to mount the tubes! (I did use a good rust preventative primer and silicone to seal the wounds though!)
They look great, brighter than I thought they'd be. Higher priced ones may be longer sizes on the side tubes, these are only 48", centered them between the wheels. Front and rear are just about right for the PT.
I'm satisfied. Course, I'm cheap! lol
If they had offered one with a remote for only $15 more at the time, I would have gotten them, but since I only have to push a little button to turn them on and off, that's not a biggie with me.
