If the insurance guy is local, ask him for his opinion of the shop. They have a bit different perspective of what is a good shop, but should know if customers complain about the place and the work.
As mentioned, quality varies, but here's hoping they get it right for you.

Alright people, here are the pics. Doesn't look as bad today as it did yesterday.

Angled view

Rear passenger door jam.

Rear passenger door.

Ouch

Close up. Looks like Wolverine from X-Men got to it!

Broken rim.

Side view.

Rear drivers side.

Good view. Like nothing ever happened.

Come to find out there wasn't too much contact. Most of the damage was done by the rig's metal bumper which acted like a can opener.
I also checked out the body shop's work. Looks great. Not too much body work to be done on mine. Got my rental car today also, I asked for a Cruiser, got a Kia Amanti. It's actually not too bad.

The body shop's estimate to fix my Cruiser is $4700. The guy's insurance company said they would only pay $3500 & the body shop HAS to do the repairs within that budget. Is this a normal practice or should I fight to have my Cruiser fixed the way it should be fixed, as close to perfect as possible? If anyone has been in this same predicament any information would be great. I'm starting to get a little bit upset.[xx(] It's not my fault their client hit me. They should fix it right, right!!?

They should fix it BUT their insurance may be giving you a figure from another body shop... They need to show you where you can get it fixed for that price, otherwise they should meet the $4700. You might want to call you ins co and have them get involved (it is in their best interests).

They are trying to get out of it cheap. To them it's just good business to get you to settle low.

Have you told them about the black-outs you've started having and the neck pains?[|)]

The answer is common. Low-ball you and try to get out cheap. I was in a motorcycle accident, and they totalled the bike and tried the same thing. I got decent money for the bike eventually, but they still wouldn't pay for the (required) helmet that got damaged. It's the "keeping costs down" they tout in ads. Fight for the proper fix for your PT.

Hey everyone. Thanks for all the input. I spoke with the body shop today & he said their first estimate is always higher than the insurance's estimate. I guess they do that to see if the insurance company will just pay their amount. Basically the only difference is that the insurance said to repair & refinish the front passenger door instead of replacing & refinishing as in the body shop's estimate.

The body shop said I would not be able to tell the difference. It WILL be as good as new. They are going to replace the rear door & they basically have to repaint the whole passenger side so the paint will blend well. Even the parts that weren't damaged like the front fender. They are going to replace my rim & get me a new tire.

I just hope my Cruiser doesn't smell like paint inside or have a lot of over spray on it. That will make me very mad.

Don't know about where you live but they cannot make you take your car to a cheap shop here. I would get three estimates. If they are all close to $4,700 I would think they will have to pay.
