Default 4 door convertible

I have a 2001 that was sold as a convertible by the dealer. I have seen several other conversions. Last weekend at St Louis there was a 2003 with a tag in the drivers door. The conversion was done by Newport.

Does anyone know how many were made for Chrylser?

Does anyone else own one?

Well, hey John! Don't know the answer to your question, but recognize you from my model car building days and seeing your work in Scale Auto Enthusiast. Welcome!!!

John,

I first moved down to Florida in November of 2001. The local Chrysler dealer had a 4 door convertible conversion in the showroom. They were asking $30K for it. That doesn't answer your question on how many they made, but does prove whoever was doing the conversion has been doing it ever since the PT hit the marketplace...up until the 2 door convertible came along...and who knows, there's still people that would rather have a 4 door convertible so they're still probably making them.

You might contact Newport Convertible Engineering at nce@pacbell.net or by phone at 714-632-3287. They still show PT Cruiser 4 door convertible conversions on their website at http://secure1advancedemedia.com/new... y=3&startat=1.

They also show a Concept PT Pickup Hardtop Convertible (SSR concept applied to a PT Cruiser) http://www.newportconvertible.com/De... 9859885654274

I believe it's PoconoPT that has a 2002 Dream Cruiser I converted and I also saw an Inferno Red 4 dr conversion at Wheels and Wings but don't recall where it's from.

Not splitting hairs, but they weren't made for Chrysler. For dealers and private owners, not Chrysler. I would think if you had grief with the top, say, Chrysler wouldn't have backed it - dealer would've had to.

DO NOT waste your money on one of these after-market "ragtop converstions" as, people who I know have told me (both owners and DC sales persons) they have seen/heard of numerous problems with them--not well done/made, roof leaks, excessive wind-noise, etc. [B)] [xx(] A person in my local PT Cruiser Club bought one and has not been happy but wanted a 4-door convertible and this was the "only game in town". These original made ragtops apparently seem the same as factory 2005 ragtops, leaking! But at least you have a better chance at bitching at Chyrsler then aftermarket, meaning three strikes and I get my money back.
