Default question on platinum plugs for 2001 N/A

I know this has been mentioned many times in the past, but I just want to be sure. It's tune-up time for my 2001 N/A Ltd. I called the dealership to get a quote. When I asked about using platinum plugs they said it couldn't/shouldn't be done. Is this just ignorance, or is there a potential service issue here? They said the computer might not correctly interpret the presence of the plugs, etc. etc.

Could I cause myself any problems by switching to the platinum plugs?

What to do?

The dealer is full of crap...as usual. There's hundreds of us that have been using the double platinum plugs for thousands of miles with out a problem. They just don't carry it at the dealers and want to sell you what they have. The old Champion number is #7440 for the Double Platinum plugs, the new number is #7570. They'll both work fine. Make sure you go for some decent upgraded wires too. The Crane wires from Race & Street are highly recommended.

Oh yea, one more thing....please use the anti-seize lubricant on the plug threads and dielectric grease on the wire ends that go on the plugs...it will save you trouble in the long run.

Thanks for the clarification. If I end up taking it to the dealer, may I quote you?

I am at 36K miles on a 2001. Do you think I should replace the wires at the same time?

You should replace the wires at the same time, if they have not
already been done. [8D]

I had the same problem with my dealer at my 30K tune up, they even picked up the 7440s I requested but refused to install them, they even claimed to have called mother Chrysler about it. They had the stock plugs in when I came to pick it up so I just blew it off for another 30K. I put in the 7440s & Crane wires myself for my 60K service.

Put the double Plats in our 2002 at 28k miles last year before the Myrtle Beach show and have 34k now. No problems, also replaced the wires with MOPAR performance wires at the same time.
Our 2003 has 18K, so I have a little ways to go before I change them.

Yes. On my '02 I developed a slight miss at teh mid-30K miles - replaced plugs, still had miss - put in Crane wires, miss gone.
The stock wires don't last.

I installed Champion Platinum Plugs at 30,000 miles and discarded the stock wires and have had no problem. Took the plugs out to inspect them at 60,000 miles and they showed no wear whatsover. I cleaned them and reinstalled. I regapped them for .042 and wow what a difference.

I recently installed Autolite Double Platinum plugs gapped to .040 and Magnacore yellow 8.5mm high performance wires. My Cruiser has never run better.
