Default New 2005 Hard Top PT Cruiser

Okay after my fiasco with my 2005 convertible PT Cruiser, I will be getting a voucher for the full MSRP, (won Virginia Lemon law) to purchase another Chrysler product. I am planning to purchase a 2005 hard top PT cruiser GT, auto-stick with all the option except GPS. Before I chose the vehicle I like to know what items I need to make sure are in order with the vehicle prior to take possesion. I told the salesperson that I wanted to test the sunroof, by getting a water hose and really spraying the top of it. I do not want any kind of leakage again like my convertible. What else I should check on the new vehicle? The paperwork from Chrysler Corporation will take approximately 3 weeks, that means I can still ride my convertible, and do not worry about the leakage on the passenger side. By the way, because I did not take Chrysler to court, what they will do with the convertible? Attempted to fix it again and sell it as a used car? My paperwork does not state lemon law but authorize a replacement vehicle up to the MSRP. I think somebody will get stuck with the same problems I have without having any state recourse, i.e. lemon law. Thanks for all the information.

Type a note stating all the problems you've had with your convertible and fold it as small as you can get it. Try and find a place inside to hide the paper where the dealer won't find it but maybe the new owner will, like maybe the underseat passenger drawer taped to the inside towards the back.

Sneaky Crewzin, Sneaky[}]

I've owned 2 PT's with Sunroofs so far, without any problem at all, but I can understand why you would be wanting to check it with a hose. I would read more about your state's lemon law, if there is any restrictions on what Chrysler can do with the car, it would probably be addressed there.

Good luck with the new car.

I have personally seen them get bought back & resold as "Demo's" or "scratch & dents"( YES, they actually put dents on them to pass them off as such) because ALOT have low mileage & were only owned for a few months. By the time they resell them/auction them, which takes no time at all., MAYBE a month. It doesnt have time to get caught by carfax, oe any other "lemon checking" web service. Not to mention..who checks new cars anyway? Right. It's only got 500-700 miles on it, not hard to believe it wasnt a demo.

BEWARE OF "LAUNDERED" LEMONS

It seems that old lemons never die. They just get passed on. For years, auto manufacturers claimed they would not dare re-sell lemons, and even told lemon owners not to worry-their bad car would be crushed or towed to a tech college for an "auto autopsy." Balderdash. They now admit to federal regulators that about 95% of the cars they repurchase go right back on the road. Sometimes, the defects have not been fixed. And sometimes, the people who buy them as used cars are kept totally in the dark.

Lemons have interesting "migratory patterns." CARS tracked lemon cars from Hawaii to Virginia, from Maine to Massachusetts, from Florida to Texas. Many states have outlawed "lemon laundering," but manufacturers still persist in breaking the law. CARS estimates that each year manufacturers buy back over 100,000 lemons, then resell them - often without the required disclosures.

They are sold as is at auction. The people who uy them, know they
were returned, but don't know why.
Ihave 2 PT's with sun roofs and have no trouble as long as the wife remembers to close hers.

Thank you for the information. But what I do not understand if Chrysler Corporation will call this 1,200 miles car a lemon, or a replacement. The paperwork they sent me does not say lemon, but a replacement (MSRP to MSRP). If they do not call it a lemon that means they probalby will sell it as a used car.

Congrats on the new car, and rest easy on the sunroof - Crewzin and I have been on lots of PT Forums for years, and sunroofs are NOT a problem.
Maybe someone in the Mojave Desert will buy your convertible....

What do you care, you're getting a new PT![:I]

Dont feel bad that the dealer might try to screw someone else. Thats what dealers do and everyone knows it. Any new owner should check it. If he doesnt ask about history then he is an idiot and will end up getting F'ed anyway.
