Default Auto Transmissions Woes!!!

Today I was driving on I-95 when the OBC (On Board Diagnostic) chime & light came on, PT started losing speed even though the engine speed continued at about 2200 PRMs. There is a "whining" sound but it is hard to pinpoint as it sounds like it is all around. Checked the code and it threw P 0700.

I pulled over and shut the PT off and called AAA for a tow to the dealer. It is there now awaiting AM so I can go and talk to the Techs.

No matter where I palce the shifter NOTHING[xx(][xx(].

I do have a extended warranty IF DC won't cover it under warranty, it is a 2002 with 47, + miles on it.

I'll post more later. [^]

It was found that the planetary gears are shot!! The mechanic who is doing the rebuilding has ordered all parts needed and when the parts are in (hopefully tomorrow) he will replace all of them and do a complete flush of the system. Probably next week I'll get it back.

By the way the dealer is providing a rental car from Enterprise at no charge. Boniface-Hires is the name of the dealer in Merritt Island Florida.

I've got a similar situation happening with my PT. I noticed the trans hesitated going into gear leaving the house yesterday and got steadily worse during the 8 mile drive to pick up my granddaughter from pre-school. Checked the fluid in the parking lot - dead on full, but a quarter mile out of the driveway I hear the ominous chime of a trouble code being set, and the trans went into limp-mode (first gear only).
Luckily, I was only two miles from the Dodge dealer who does my service (the local Chrysler shop blew off a warranty job last year) and was able to "limp" in with my wife and two kids. Less than an hour later, we were back on the road in an Enterprise rental and today called to say that they are dropping the trans.
I've only got 20K on the car and it's totally stock, so this failure is a big shock and disappointment. Thank goodness I've got a competent dealer looking after me!

Auto trans sucks. My wife's '01 went out at 81k. We have a 90k warranty on her auto '04. Wish she'd learn to drive a stick. [:I]

Buying a manual doesn't mean you won't ever have a problem. I have an '03 GT and had a leak last fall and it turned out to be the tranny, they replaced it under warranty. It was shifting just fine. It was just leaking. I'm not hard on it at all. They just replaced it.This was at 22,900 miles. Go figure?

Got my Cruiser back this evening, with lots of new parts in the trans. The dealer said that they found a chunk missing from the 1st/rev piston seal. A full sealkit, new friction, new converter and fresh +5 fluid seem to have made my baby whole again. Fantastic turnaround in my book. I think my wife's a step closer to her Hemi-Magnum!

Hooligan sorry to hear of your troubles. Isn't this covered under the 7/70 warranty?
