Default Thief strikes wife's PT

It appears that a thief stole the lower chrome grille overlay off the lower front of my wife's PT. I guess what bothers me most is that who would take it unless they had a PT? I have another on order and have to fix it quick to make wife happy. She says it looks like a smile with a tooth missing now. Her PT is her baby.

And what would they do with just the lower piece????
On another Forum, a member had custom tailights lifted - then another PT in the neighborhood suddenly had the same ones.....[xx(]

Since it's an overlay, any chance it just fell off while driving? Although you might have heard it fall, or driven over it, there's always the chance it came off by itself. [:I]

I thought that at first but it is held on with two sided tape and clips. I just noticed that the top portion was also not flush like someone was pulling on it. They are two seperate pieces and I can't see both coming loose at the same time.

I bet someone damaged theirs by scraping it on a curb and decided that you wouldn't mind donating yours for his use.

The thing is these customizations aren't that common, so unless you live in an urban area, the likelihood that somone who needed the overlay in your area who happened to come across your wife's PT is slim.

Sorry for your loss.

If it is the same chrome grille overlay I have on my '04 and my son has on his '01, then it could have come off by itself. The tape and the small molded hook can come loose on the bottom. My son has to check his on a regular basis. On the top unit, mine was only wanting to stay close on one side. It did not seem to really conform to the arc of the grille so it seemed to be loose on one side or the other. Then the little molded clip broke on one side so I used some stainless interior screws mounted far enough back that the hood covers them. Now, no problem.
I would hate to think any PT'r would steal from his or her family.

My little clips came off the wifes PT on top so I put screws in them to hold them on.The clips they put on aren't very strong,so if someone was pulling on them they would break very easy.I'm beatting they fell off. I would hate to think a fellow Cruiser would take them.

A friend had the overlay grille on his PT, top and bottom and he received a E&G grille as a gift. When we went to take the lower piece off, it took no effort at all to remove it. You could see where hardly any of the tape was sticking. As for the upper piece, I have seen a lot of them not fit very well. I think the OEM grille shrinks and expands with temperature changes more than the overlays and that'a why they come loose.

I am going to put a few screws in it to keep it in place. Hopefully that will keep them in place.
