I'm not a big fan of extended warranties. My '95 Ranger had 210,000 miles when I traded it in. Total amount of repair work that would have been covered by an extended warranty $100.00. I traded it in on my Cruiser. I paid $125.00 to transfer the 7/70 warranty. At that price I figure it might be worth it. My wife's '92 Civic had no warranty repairs needed in the 5 years we had it. Traded that in on the '97 Pontiac. About $2000 in repairs mostly after it hit 100,000 miles so the warranty wouldn't have covered it.
Traded the Pontiac in on an '04 Accord. When I told the finance person (who sells the extended warranties) that I didn't want it she acted shocked. "Everybody buys the extended warranty, she said. I said "Not everybody. Besides are you telling me that I need to buy a warranty because you are sure my new car is going to break down? Maybe we should purchase another make of car." As I stood up to walk out she started back peddling. I sat back down and things like extended warranties and "Gap" insurance were no longer discussed.

Just a fyi regarding the GEICO warranty...it is for vehicles less than 15 months old, 15,000 miles or less and origional owners. It does state that "Geico MBI is an all-risk insurance that covers all mechanical parts of the car"
Exclusions for normal wear items of course, and abuse. It does require a deductible, and authorization prior to the repair, which can be done at a "licensed repair facility"
