Say, did you read the owners manual as to how to break in your new PT during the first 1000 miles? The computer has to learn your driving style....and it looks like you may have broken some rules.

We've put a little over 1000 miles on our 06 PT Limited
Edition with the automatic and turbo engine. We've taken
two trips (over 100 miles each) on interstate highways averaging
about 65 mph on cruise control.

The average mileage on the first trip was 17.9 mpg. The second trip
mileage was 18.7 mpg. The window sticker say highway mileage should be
22-30. Not even close.

We have a 1999 corvette coupe with 400 horsepower and we get almost 30
mpg on the highway with it!!!

Why the heck can't this little 4 cylinder PT Cruiser get better mileage?

Anyone else have similar problems?

The first thing you have to do is check the tire pressure is it at 35 lbs at all four wheel? Then you have to understand that living in PA your winter grade fuels are oxygenated so your mileage will be bad. Give your cruiser some break in time then in March after the 15 th your mileage will start to improve .And get your foot off of the gas,What do you think you have,A corveete?[8)]

sorry i'm a late poster here..been busy with holidays....
cheer up! it will get better. My 05 GT with automatic started out at 18 or so in town, 19 to 20 on the highway(with a/c on).
After 9,000 miles I get a consistent 21 in town, have gotten 24 on the highway....this is all with a heavy foot into the boost too.
Adding Mobil One synthetic gave me 1-2 mpg too!
oh, and by the way....you'd been happier with a GT, especially if you are used to a Vette. Throw on some goodies and you'd go looking for vettes!

I just took a roadtrip 620 miles total. If i go buy the onboard computer i got 25.4 miles per gallon.I would say the average speed was around 70,,sometimes 65 sometimes 80 depending on how traffic was flowing. My car now has 2246 miles. The first couple of weeks i was getting around 18.9 but i was doing alot of city driving.

The onboard computer is based on total miles (in your case 2226) driven of the car, don't use the avg. you see in the left hand gauge.

I check mine each time I fill up.

If you seriously want to record accurate gas mileage and check your car's performance this is a good method to use, IMHO. [8]

Don't worry about the bad mileage the first few thousand miles.

When I first got mine, about 2 years ago, my mileage on the highway was 16-18mpg. I was really concerned about it, but soon it fell into the 21-23mpg range.

My mom was complaining about her cruiser too. She was getting a solid 18 on her 06 PT Limited turbo. Last I looked she was around 20. She still has less than 500 miles on it. She likes the turbo.

bp16, First typing in all CAPS on here is like shouting.

Second, if you put Champion 7440 or equal and Magnacore wires on it, that should improve your milage.

Third, Add a AiRaid air filter, or a K&N drop in filter, that also will improve milage. Those three thing increased my highway milage to a good 22-25.

Remember that the posted gas milage is at optimum conditions. The latest ad I saw stated 30 MPG. My '06 NA will never get that and I have never heard of anyone on here getting getting 30 MPG.
